Mayweather To Return May 5th Wants Pacquiao!! STEP UP MANNY!!

Boxing adviser Leonard Ellerbe has revealed that WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs) intends to defend his belt on May 5, 2012, and the MGM Grand in Las Vegas has been placed on hold. On September 17th, Mayweather returned from a 16-month layoff to stop Victor Ortiz in four rounds.

Ellerbe told ESPN.com that WBO champion Manny Pacquiao is the main target for May. The two sides have tried to negotiate a fight in the past, with their talks falling apart more than a few times. The biggest issue, which still remains outstanding, are both sides agreeing to a random drug testing protocol.

"We're looking to make the biggest fight possible and everyone knows what that fight is, the little fella. Floyd made it very clear that he wants to give the fans the biggest fights that are out there. He wants to stay active," Ellerbe said. "We're going to do everything in our power to make the biggest fight out there for the fans and we all know what the fight is."

"Floyd made it very clear to us what he wanted to do. He told us he is looking to make the biggest fight that is out there and to make it in May."

Now that the testing issue is seemingly resolved. (Hopefully) I'm just hoping neither one of them changes their stance on the 50/50 split. I have a feeling that might become another sticking point, if one tries to gain leverage over the other.

come on man we already went over the oscar de la hoya thing. Nobody ever in boxing got 50/50 against oscar. Not Floyd, not pacquiao, not pernell whitaker, not bernard hopkins, not Trinidad, not Chavez Sr., not Vargas, not no body.

Money has never been an issue with Pac vs Floyd, so don't make it an issue on here. There will be like $100 million dollars for them to split if not more, both will be just fine.

The big issue is obviously drug testing. That's it.

arum isn't going to put bradley against pac yet. He just got bradley as a fighter and he plans on promoting him before anything like that. Arum will make something like bradley vs mike jones first or possibly bradley vs amir khan first.

I think guys like Brandon Rios would have a better shot at pac than bradley, since arum wants to make Rios vs Gamboa ASAP.

This is why "negotiating" through the media doesn't help nobody. What needs to happen is after the Pac-JMM fight, assuming pac wins, is both sides need to sit down together privately and negotiate. Ellerbe, Arum, Koncz, they're all boneheads for just talking to the media instead of eachother. It's pointless.
