This ISN'T a thread about Kutt leaving. It's a thread discussing my disagreement with a couple of the songs off of Kutt's new album. I don't think Kutt is going anywhere whatsoever. If he does...that would be like one of us quiting our jobs before we found another one.
yeah, i know its not a thread about kutt leaving...its a thread discussing the same songs (and lyrics and feelings) though...thats why i brought that up...

i think they are 2 different topics though...it wasnt saying a thread was already started on the same topic.

and i dont know about kutt>tech...i think they make slightly different music (kutts is more...."hood")

they are BOTH great artists though....Kutt is GREAT at what he does and he deserves a lot more shine than what he gets....

Kutt is acting like he's not getting paid. Last time I checked, Kutt still charges $1000 per verse. He also probably sells anywhere from 4 to 6 thousand albums per release. Plus, Strange does over 200 shows a year. So he's making more money than tons of other underground artists. He's probably pushing more units than BG Bulletwound, The Popper, and Paul Mussan combined.

The dude's making money...and if he's not making enough, maybe it's because he's got 5 different kids with 5 different baby mamas. That child support tends to hurt the pockets a little.
I'm willing to bet that Kutt is seeing less than 100k a year... There are rappers in KC who make more off drugs than Kutt will ever get from music. If you want an example of major drug money profits associated with KC rappers google "operation block buster kansas city"

"during a four-month time period – more than 800 kilograms of cocaine was distributed, resulting in more than $10 million of drug proceeds."

Damn, I looked in to that. Pretty crazy.

selling the cd yourself you get all the money. when you are on a label even if it is considered indie you have to pay percentages to people. you wont make as much as you think you are going it make.
This is true. But, you have to look at the big picture. When you are on a label, they help you with the production costs of the album, promotion, distribution, etc. So sure they are going to want a cut. Selling 5000 cds and them taking a chunk is better than you having to put up all the money to make your album, promote it, distribute it and sell a 1/4 of the copies. I'd say it probably cost less than $20k for Kutt's album. But that depends on how much they pay for beats and how much time they waste writing lyrics in the studio as they tend to do.

Here is what I know...
Recording time at Chapman Studio with Rob Rebeck engineering-$85/hr (at least 90 hours in the studio)
Tom Baker mastering for Strange-$350 per song
I'd say with the way the album sounds, probably $500/beat for the album. I hear Seven charges around $1000 though.
Features??
Promotion??
Distribution??

I'm saying if you paid out of pocket and you were hustling these out of the trunk of your car, you'd probably be skimping on some of these costs so that you could make more of a profit. Therefore the quality wouldn't be as good and you would probably not be selling as many albums by hand anyways. Therefore...you wouldn't make anymore money in the long run!!

Subnoize or Psy would snatch him up.
Subnoize for sure. Why in the world would Psy snatch him up? No way. He doesn't fit in that sub-genre whatsoever.

they are BOTH great artists though....Kutt is GREAT at what he does and he deserves a lot more shine than what he gets....
Of course he does. But so does Tech. If the main artist on your label isn't getting the spotlight, why would you? It's a domino effect. I'm sure Kutt's benefiting from Tech's popularity increase though in the last few years, right? First Tech eats, then the artists that ride his coattail eat.

I'm willing to bet that Kutt is seeing less than 100k a year...
No doubt man. That sounds about right. I'm just saying I'm sure there are a few rappers out here that would love to hop aboard that train and make 100k a year and get to do what they love for a living.

I wonder what kind of royalty's strange artists get while searching around for industry figures i came across this chart and was quite surprised how many units a artists needs to sell just to make a little money..And that's after production costs are paid back as smitty mentioned..

Smitty,

I agree. I don't enjoy hearing songs where the artist complains about how hard they have it. Either deal with it, find a better job, or start your own company. If he wants to go back into the drug game and risk everything he has to make a few extra bucks... well... all I have to say to that is good fucking luck, I hope you don't get busted.

Man this shit is getting blown way out of proportion.

The cat don't sound ungrateful to me. If you are talented at some shit and for WHATEVER reason you aren't progressing the way you feel you should there is gonna be frustration, and artists vent through their art. Plain and simple. For the most of his career even since the FTI days Tech has been frustrated with being in the shadows of the music industry, and he vented through his music. Now the cat is a multi-millionaire, history making rapper who is leaving an imprint on the industry. Imagine if the shadow you were in, was your label mate, your friend, and your boss. Tech was saying fuck people he didn't give a shit about, Kutt loves Strange, he just isn't happy where he is in his career. For some of you that haven't been around long enough to remember, Strange music operated in the RED for years, it was a big investment from all of these guys. It used to be a small, small crew, and Trav,Cory, Krizz, Kutt, Tech, Grant Rice, Big Nick, Joe Vertigo, and Matt sometimes. They traveled the country in vans and box trucks. So when you look at the fact that every tour (with the exception of outside of the U.S.) Kutt and Krizz have put in the EXACT same amount of travel and effort that Tech has, and now that Tech has exploded, as a man you have to start looking at where you are versus what you have invested, and where you THINK you should be.

Tech probably encourage Kutt to put these songs on the album, and as a co-owner of a label, I would be glad that my artist isnt complacent, and that he wants more than he has. Tech has seen Kutt's work ethic for the last 10+ years, mainly in support of him, imagin how hard he will work for himself.

I can understand what Kutts sayin. Every night fans say I love you Kutt, You're so dope Kutt. Then soundscans come back and they dont reflect what people tell him on tour. It has to be frustrating.

I felt the same way but I would too be frustrated if I were in his position
but what he doesnt realize most of the pople who are buying the albums are the ones saying I love you kutt n all that
