Theyre fucking sick. Dont listen to a sample. Just download their whole first CD. Frances the Mute is their 2nd, and its good too, but there is too much damn ambient experimental "crap" on it.

The first cd is better in most fans eyes, because every song is classic after you get into it.

The first time i heard them I didnt know what to think. They toured with APC in '03. They're a jamband, classic rock but modern feeling type of vocals.. kinda... arg i cant describe them

Ill just upload the first cd right hnow.

Yeah you want to listen to De-Loused all the way through. The whole album is one big story. While I personally think Frances the Mute is a really great cd it isn't anywhere near as good as De-Loused.

If you like them (some people don't care for Cedric's voice IMO he is a awesome singer) check At the Drive-In...it's Cedric and Omar of Mars Volta's first group.

LOL....

After first listen I particularly like the 12 minute song "Cicatriz ESP". The lead singer's voice is definitely unorthodox, but I'm diggin' it. I've gotta marinate to the sounds a little longer to really see what it's all about.......

Yeah...Cedric be hitting those high notes sometimes lol. If you think people need to decipher Maynard's lyrics...you should really try to understand what Cedric is sining about lol (even though Omar does the writing)

Yeah like i said, the first time i heard them i was pretty confused over what I thought. I thought they were really weird and that i wouldnt get into them 'that' much

A couple years later i often find myself blasting that CD rocking out to every single song. Its really different.. but once you get into them they are way cool

I know like me you like knowing the meaning behind albums so here is a brief summary of what De-Loused in the Comatorium is all about. If you have any questions let me know Cranky.

De-Loused in the Comatorium is a concept album by the progressive rock band The Mars Volta. Based on a short story by lead singer Cedric Bixler Zavala, it is the hour-long tale of Cerpin Taxt, a man who tries to kill himself by overdosing on morphine. The attempt lands him in a week-long coma during which he experiences visions of humanity and his own psyche. Upon waking, he is dissatisfied with the real world and jumps to his death. The story of Cerpin Taxt is based on the death of El Paso, Texas artist (and Bixler Zavala's friend) Julio Venegas. Coincidentally, one month before the album was released, the band's sound manipulation artist, Jeremy Michael Ward, died of an apparent heroin overdose.

The music contained in De-Loused is distinguished by its enigmatic lyrics, Latin rhythms, odd time signatures, frequent tempo changes, and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's frenetic guitar riffs, which are often harshly dissonant. The title of this album is taken from the lyrics of the song "Eunuch Provocateur" on the band's previous release, Tremulant.

About Juliano Venegas.


Julio Venegas was an artist and musician from El Paso, Texas who committed suicide in 1996.

The Mars Volta, a rock band comprised of former members of the El Paso band At the Drive-In and other musicians, released a debut album entitled De-Loused in the Comatorium, which is a concept album about a character named Cerpin Taxt, whom the band has said is based almost entirely on Venegas. The lyrics are often cryptic or unintelligible, but a lyric book released later revealed that the album details his descent into a coma after overdosing on morphine and his subsequent visions. After deciding to wake up, he reenters the world and finally takes his own life. The band has said that the album is a sort of eulogy to Venegas, with whom they were friends while in El Paso.

Venegas' later life experiences were similar to the lyrical story; having been scarred from allegedly injecting rat poison into his arm, he slipped into a coma from a drug overdose. Some time after he awoke from his coma, Venegas committed suicide by jumping from the overpass to the mesa street exit and into moving traffic.

Good lookin' out on that info Nuttkace. That gives me much more perspective on what the band is about and what the album is about......Back to soakin'.....
