Oh shit this movie is going to be huge, I didn't realize Darren Aronofsky is going to be the director (he did Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The fountain (which sucked).

Brad Pitt in Talks For Micky Ward Movie

By Mark Vester

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Brad Pitt is in negotiations to co-star with Mark Wahlberg in "The Fighter," a boxing motion picture to be directed by Darren Aronofsky. The movie will be based on the life of "Irish" Mickey Ward (played by Wahlberg) and his trainer/brother Dick Eklund (played by Pitt).

Originally, Matt Damon had agreed to play the role of Eklund, but had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts.

The movie will chronicle the early days of Ward and Eklund on the rough streets of Lowell, Mass., Eklund's battle with drugs and Ward's eventual rise in the sport of boxing.

After watching The Wrestler, which is Darren Aronofsky's latest movie, this movie is going to be dope. The Wrestler was a big surprise one of the better movies I've seen in '08. I heard Brad Pitt pulled out from the movie though but this is a movie Darren Aronofsky wants to make to follow up the wrestler.

Boxing movies are "hella weak". I guess throwing sub-par actors into the film instead of totally horrible ones is a step up for the genre. This will be a mildly, at best, entertaining movie, yet hold great appeal for the latently homosexual among you.

I smell an oscar
what... you mean guys like Robert De Niro and Will Smith?

Christian Bale To Be In The Micky Ward Movie

Christian Bale Gears Up And Loses Weight For His Next Film, ‘The Fighter’
Published by Eric Ditzian on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 2:30 pm.

Though Christian Bale has two huge entries in the summer ’09 movie season—“Terminator Salvation” and next Wednesday’s “Public Enemies”—he hasn’t actually shot a film in a year. But this July he’ll be returning to work and—as MTV’s Josh Horowitz learned during an interview with the actor to promote “Enemies”—kicking some serious ass when he does.

The film, called “The Fighter,” co-stars Mark Wahlberg, and tells the true story of “Irish” Micky Ward (Wahlberg), who goes on a “Rocky”-like journey through the world of light welterweight boxing with the help of his brother Dickie Eklund (Bale), a boxer-turned-jailbird-turned-trainer.

“I’ve had to loose a great deal of weight because he was a welterweight,” Bale said.

Check out the video below to see what Bale has to say about returning to work and spending a great deal of time with “Fighter” director David O. Russell, who, like Bale, once suffered through his own embarrassing on-set tirade.

thats dope, christian bale about to play a crackhead. Movie should be sick if it's anything like The Wrestler

And this movie is finally official. It was postponed because it wasn't getting the funding, but after the success of The Wrestler that all changed.
