I don't recall this ever being retorted before but in addition to his smashed orbital bone he suffered a detached retina. That's one of the worst possible injuries in boxing and I doubt he'll be back. It's not impossible though (sugar ray leonard came back a couple years after a detached retina).

Antonio Margarito Update

By Gabriel F. Cordero

A proposed grudge rematch between Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto is on the shelf for the moment. In addition to the broken orbital socket Margarito suffered in his brutal loss to Manny Pacquiao last November, “The Tijuana Tornado” also suffered a detached retina in that fight. The injury could force Margarito to retire from the sport.

Lol you're funny. Margarito is a bum, Floyd would pot shot that chump all night. He couldn't even beat Shane and he couldn't beat Cotto without the plaster.

First look at Cotto's face after he could Margarito.
Then look at Shane's face after he fought Margarito.
Then look at Shane's face after he fought Pacquiao.

I don't think he would have beat him as bad as Pacquiao did, but that would have been an easy night for Floyd.

He cracked Manny's ribs? Are you serious? Just think what would have happened to Manny's ribs if Margarito didn't get busted for the plaster.

Margarito would be a pretty easy fight for floyd. I dont think he would beat him as brutal as manny did but i think he would pull of the UD.

oh of course. You definitely could be damaged forever. Vasquez had multiple surgeries on his before it was fixed. He said it basically just looked fuzzy and white in that eye. I'm surprised he tried to box again. It's pretty sad. I wanna say Lamon Brewster had it happen a few years ago when he was in line for a big fight and he was out over a year I think.

It's definitely serious but not impossible to come back from. Margarito should just retire though. Hopefully he's invested his money or something cause he's made plenty to live off of.

yeah Brewster had a detached retina and I don't think it's ever been the same.

David Reid suffered a detached retina in the Trinidad fight and fought a couple times after but had to retire before losing his eyesight completely. Sugar Ray Seales went legally blind and was forced to retire after a detached retina (although that was a long time ago and technology has advanced quite a lot since then).

Also, my favorite Korean fighter Ji Hoon Kim recently pulled out of Friday Night fights due to detached retina...not sure what's up with him. I love watching the guy fight

I didn't even know that about Kim. That sucks. I think a lot of guys overlook it until they really can't see at all. I would freak the hell out if I couldn't see.

I heard brewster was heavy into drugs during his layoff with the injury. Not sure how true that was.

What the hell happened to Calvin brock? He disappeared after being kayoed

lol Brock, man the heavyweight division is like the bermuda triangle, lots of MIA guys. All I know is Brock lost to Eddie Chambers after he was KO'd by Klit and hasn't fought since and that was like 4 years ago.

how about Tony Thompson? dude took a nap on the canvas against Klit never heard his name again.

In an interview with ESPN Deportes Radio, former IBF/WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KOs) said he won’t be retiring due to the eye injury he sustained in his fight against Manny Pacquiao last November. Margarito stated that he wants to continue his career, and in the worst case scenario he plans to take a year off to recover from the injury. During the Pacquiao fight, he suffered a cracked right orbital bone which required surgery. But later some retinal damage was discovered and Margarito's return has been hanging in limbo.

David Reid suffered a detached retina in the Trinidad fight and fought a couple times after but had to retire before losing his eyesight completely.
Reid was cashed out because of prior eye problems from the amateurs and the beating Trinidad handed him made it worse. There's a reason Reid's management moved him into a money fight that fast.

Brock had a botched surgery or some shit like that after the Chambers fight and left him blind. Brock is an intelligent guy with a degree and I'm sure he's doing well without boxing.

.. and for the record he was far straight up garbage.

EDIT: I meant far from straight up garbage.
