damn, I guess that eye injury was worse than expected...

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-maragarito-20110506,0,6376384.story

The former world welterweight champion sustained the injury in a loss to Manny Pacquiao in November and will undergo an examination next week that could determine whether his career can resume.

Antonio Margarito, the former world welterweight boxing champion beaten by Manny Pacquiao in November, is struggling to recover from a right eye injury suffered in that bout and will undergo an extensive examination next week that probably will determine whether his career can resume.

Margarito (38-7, 27 knockouts) was struck in the eye by a left uppercut from Pacquiao in the fourth round of his unanimous-decision loss to the Filipino star Nov. 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Margarito's promoter, Bob Arum, earlier this year sought to schedule a summer date for Margarito to have a rematch against world super-welterweight champion Miguel Cotto, then pushed it back to September.

Word came Thursday that Margarito will now visit the University of Utah's prestigious John A. Moran Eye Center next week.

"The eye is still giving him trouble; it has not completely healed," Arum said.

Margarito's trainer, Robert Garcia, said he is "worried" about his fighter, who was ensnared in scandal in 2009 after plaster-coated inserts were pulled from inside his hand wraps before his loss to Shane Mosley at Staples Center. The California State Athletic Commission revoked Margarito's license.

"It's hard to think that he'll have to maybe quit like this when there's still million-dollar paydays out there for him," Garcia said. "I always tell these guys to invest their money when they get it, because that next big fight might never come. This is a big hit. He's a close friend."

Fuck that cheatin ass motherfucker.

He tried to tell his trainer in between rounds that Pacquiao had no power (probably so they didn't throw in the towel). His eye socket says otherwise.

still wanted to see Cotto-Margarito rematch.

honestly, the blame here must go onto Margarito's trainer Robert Garcia, who I think is a great trainer otherwise, but he really didn't do his most important duty in protecting his fighter. It doesn't matter what your fighter says, they will almost always say they want to continue due to pride alone, that's why you're there to make the decision for them.

Mosley KO'ed/TKO Vargas two times and KO'ed Mayroga before beating the brakes off Margarito in 9 rounds. Margarito is pro fighter it's his own fault if he can't get ready for a title fight. His damn job is to stay in shape and box for money. NO excuses Mosley beat his ass and KO'ed him, the ref had to jump in and save him from the beating Mosley was giving him.

this.

if you're not mentally in the fight you can get dropped no matter how solid your chin is.

i also really wanted to see cotto/margarito 2. every sport needs its "villains" ..margarito is the type of fighter you can love to hate. he plays the part well.

Thats bullshit though, Margarito didn't take Mosleys punches well at all and we all know hes any easy target. Its pretty simple Mosley landed power shots at will and Margarito folded cuz he couldnt back Mosley up with constant pressure like he likes to do against his opponents.

Margarito is a straight warrior...But to make excuses and call someone lucky is kind of bullshit IMO...The only lucky in boxing is when it comes down to the cards on a close fight...Other than that these guys train to hard and have to become totally focused in order to step in the ring.....

Lucky kind of discredits a fighters hard work...IMO...Weight drain and weak is what he may have been...But in all he put himself in that positon...(him and his camp)...

Im Puerto Rican and watched that Margarito fight in a Mexican household (i didnt hear the end of it).....He better straighten his eye out someway and get that fight vs cotto craccin.....

Cotto has never dropped to one knee like that or been destroyed like that prior to that fight....And after that he has not been the same.....We need that rematch...

looks like margarito was told he can never fight again, going for second opinion...

There is a very good likelihood that there will be no return match between Cotto and Antonio Margarito, as Margarito may have suffered a career-ending eye injury against Pacquiao in November. Arum would like to send him to a specialist. "If they ever settle down and let me arrange for them to go to Utah to see Dr. Alan Crandall, we’d know. He has been told by a doctor that examined him that he should never fight again. Now, I want to see what the Moran Eye Institute in Utah has to say, whether they can do any corrective surgery. I don’t know; I’m not a doctor."
