Next up in our 32 teams in 32 days feature is the Oakland Raiders. Despite a 71 OVR team rating and a 4-12 record in 2007, the Oakland Raiders have a lot to offer to madden users this year. They have become a top 15 team in Madden with some of their offseason additions. The 71 OVR rating doesn’t reflect their potential at all.

OFFENSE: The Oakland Offense has potential to be a very potent offense. It has various players who can make plays and score on any given down. It all starts out with the signal caller. 2nd year player Jamarcus Russell has a overall rating of 82. He has 72 speed, 58 awareness, 98 throwing power, and 86 throwing accuracy. Russell has the 2nd lowest awareness of starting Quarterbacks. He is 2nd to Tarvaris Jackson’s 56 awareness rating. Russell isn’t nearly as bad as Jackson and should have a higher awareness rating. With the capability to make plays with his feet and his arm, he is a big threat to opposing defenses.

The bright spot of the offense is Darren McFadden(85) and Justin Fargas(84). They were ranked the 7th best RB duo in the guy by MaddenList in our “Top 10 RB Duos for 09″ about a week ago. Speed is the name of the game in Madden and both of these guys have it. Fargas has speed of 95, agility of 94, and acceleration of 96. If he gets some open field, he is most likely off to the races. McFadden has even better big play capability. He has 97 speed, 96 agility, 92 elusiveness, and a 78 catch rating. He is a threat out of the backfield as well since he has good hands. Coupled with a farily good offensive line, Oakland users will a lot of success on the ground.

At WR the Raiders acquired Javon Walker thru free agency to give them an immediate boost to their offense. Walker was given a 87 overall rating with 91 speed, 87 catch, and a 88 route running rating. EA was courteous to him but he has the ability to stretch the field and catch passes in traffic. He will be able to hurt defenses deep, matched with Russell’s 99 throwing power, this could be a nice tag team. Opposite of Walker is Ronald Curry(82).who has 89 speed and 86 catch rating. He is a solid option but don’t expect him to blow anybody anyway and be a gamebreak. They also signed Drew Carter from Carolina but don’t expect him to make much of an impact. He has 95 speed but poor route running. Look to hit him on eithe screens or drags. TE Zack Miller serves as a great target over the middle, with his size and ability to get open.

The Offensive line is above average and can get the job done. Kwame Harris(78) and Cornell Green(83) are the tackles and are the lowest rated. However with McFadden & Fargas’s speed that isn’t too big of a deal. The Raiders have the ability to pound the ball up the middle because both guards are rated 86+. Center John Wade can push the pile as well. Near the goal-line they can get the job done.

DEFENSE: The Defense received some nice additions and could rank near the top of the AFC possibly. On the defensive line they have Derrick Burgess(92), Greg Spires(81) at ends and on the inside they have Tommy Kelly(91) and Terdell Sands(83). Running the ball on Oakland is going to be tough with Burgess and Kelly on the defensive line. They have good linebackers as well in Kirk Morrison(92), Thomas Howard(91) and Robert Thomas(79). Morrison and Howard have great speed for madden at LB and will cause offenses some headaches as they can fly around and make plays.

The #2 Cornerback Duo in the game of Nnamdi Ashomugha(96) and DeAngelo Hall(95) are going to be a dominant force this year in Madden. Ashomugha has great speed at 93 but Hall is the burner with a 98 speed and 98 acceleration. He is a severe threat to QB’s because he can break on nearly any pass thrown his way. Ashomugha has the highest man coverage rating in the game at 99 and is considered a true “Lockdown Corner”. He has a press rating of 92 so it’ll be tough for opposing WR’s to get off the line. DeAngelo Hall also has a 82 catch rating, the 2nd highest for a CB behind Antonio Cromartie who has a 84. With Gibril Wilson(85) and Michael Huff(84) behind them, the Oakland Secondary is going to be very tough to throw on.

If Oakland users can get a successful passing game out of Jamarcus’s 56 awareness, they should be on their way to a successful tenure in Madden 09 playing with the Raiders. The running game will be there, the defense is tough but Jamarcus Russell is going to be the key to winning games. All he will need is for Javon Walker not to get jumped on his way to the game, and he’ll be alright. How this team is a 71 OVR is beyond me because they are freakin’ STACKED!

MOST OVERRATED PLAYER: DT Tommy Kelly (91 OVR)

Defensive Tackle Tommy Kelly recorded 30 tackles and 1 sack. He was given a 50.5 million dollar contract and jumped to a 91 OVR in Madden. I am sorry but that season does not warrant such a high rating or that big of a contract. Al Davis must be smoking the same stuff Matt Jones is.

BIGGEST OVERACHIEVER: WR Arman Shileds (68 OVR)

4th round draft pick from UCONN, Arman Shileds has potential to be dangerous in Madden. Javon Walker and Ronald Curry don’t have blazing speed but Shields does. He has 95 speed, 96 agility, 96 acceleration, and 95 jumping. To the Madden player, speed and a high jump rating can be deadly.

P.S. I will be copping a PS3 soon and if any of you want some, get at me! I am going to be smashin' y'all fools with the Raiders.... get ready mf's!!

Funny how Fargas jumped from like a 76 rating to an 84 in one season just because he played behind a line that could run block well for him.

What's up with all the Raider hate? 58 awareness is damn low I don't care if you're a 3rd stringer. Russell isn't all that bad... he had a decent qb rating in his only 2nd start (vs San Diego) and dude didn't even play in pre-season.

@mooreblock you can't hate on McFadden's ratings dog. I bet your boy Chris Johnson is fast too... But Lendale White should be rated even lower than an 82 because his only strength is his vision. That may chance this year because he's in shape.

@3vid3nc3, Fargas' ratings deserved an increase... hopefully they gave our offensive line an increase as well.

I am going to put the smash down with the Raiders. I am used to playing with qb's with low awareness ratings (thanks to Brooks, ha) so Russell's low awareness rating is nothing to a Madden boss.

I agree, just sayin thats a pretty drastic jump in rating. Its not like he got that much better as a running back in the past year. He was just given an opportunity and played behind a line the made everyone look solid that ran behind it. I know the guys that do the ratings for players dont factor this shit in tho, they just look at stats/hype and try to estamate an accurate rating when atliest half the time they're off.

Nobody knows true ratings but I think they do the best they can especially when they factor is speed. I think they're close as far as their true ratings go. Can't wait for this to drop... it's going to be on.

fargas and white had similiar years...in no way would i considerd fargas better then lendale white (overwieght or not...)and thats not even a biased statement.......chris johnson is a 97 speed i think because he ran one of the best 40 times EVER....

the ratings are extemly flawed year in and year out

fargas had one good half of a season in his career....behind a scheme that made other pisspoor players look ok...

fargas will do half or less of what white will do in his career...
You seem to have a lot of faith in lendale white. Lendale averaged 3.7 ypc last season and only had 7 td's which isn't too many considering how many carries and how he is supposed to be a power back. I don't see lendale being anything better than an above average rb in his career. He was somewhat successful last season because the titans had a good run blocking o-line.

On the other hand fargas took over the starting job around half way during the season. He averaged 4.5 ypc and rushed for over 1,000 yards and that was splitting the carries with jordan and rhodes.

Real talk... from watching them play we can tell who the better running back is. I don't think there's one thing that White does better than Fargas. Fargas is more powerful, faster, quicker, more agile,... (hence: the better madden rating).

In two years White hasn't had a run longer than 30 yards.
