first, it was never confirmed by the coroner that he actually DIED from the gunshot wound, it was said that he could have died from a blow to the head during the crash...but that really doesn't matter.

It wasn't just Vitamin Water, it was the fact that it was the first time a rapper turned down money up front for equity in the company. It proved to bet a smart gamble seeing that since the company was bought for 4.1 billion, he cleared about 100 million after taxes. It's big in the sense that it showed a great business move from a rapper, who consistently make questionable business decisions.
