This game is a masterpiece and I only played an hour into it.

The first fight scene was real tight. I killed three of the beginning warriors with one swing. Fighting that giant machine was even better. 4 discs of fun, this reminds me of Legend of the Dragoon. (4 disks and then that button hitting system of combos)

Good Game

i am 11 hours in and my opinions havent changed much.

its a traditional turn-based,story-drivin japanese rpg. nothing special to most but to for me,thats EXACTLY my kind of rpg. with final fantasy going real-time and action rpg's gettin more and more popular, its actually refreshing to play a rpg that sticks to the old school formula.

its good looking.has just enough depth to not overwelm you with micro-management (really like the rings and the skill/spell system).the boss fights feel like boss fights cause they are hard as fuck, actually have to use strategy and not just barrage him with your overpowered sword chars. the side quests are there, the awesome cgi movies are there.

has everything i personally like from a rpg. but like with most jrpgs that get imported here, people either love them or hate them. thats why i never trust reviews, gotta play it for yourself
Some games are better suited for real time combat.
If Jade Empire would have been turn based it would have made it boring. I also think thats what made mass-effect so great. I did'nt have to decide what to do I just did it. This game however has a classic yet still new fell to it.

^^^ I can see what you are saying. As we all know a classic rpg is turned based (i.e. FF, Suikoden, ......) but thats what I like about this game. I like micro-management, its fun and for some strange reason it really gives your brain a workout. Maybe not your pre-frontal cortex (I.E. Brain Age) but it does make you think about rationing supplies. Have you had to change discs yet?

Does this game remind you of legend of dragoon?

so far as good, worse, or better than DDS?
hard to say. i love the DDS story. not deep enough into lost odyssey to compare just yet, need to see how it progresses. but this story definitly keeps me interested, the dreams are so well written and engaging, cant help but to get into the story

as of right now,in its own right, its as good. doubt i will ever say its better though. we arent talking about one of the all time great rpg's here,we are talking about a great next-gen rpg that has been way too long in the making.

^^^See Iam the opposite. Iam not really into sports games (Madden) I do like racing games (PGR). I really dont like RTS at all. C&C, Starcraft are all boring to me. Warcraft III was the worst one I have ever played. I think my favorite RTS is Alpha Centuri. Its old but I enjoy the Sci-Fi element.

to anybody that is playing the game and a little bit into it......

how the hell do you get passed mack when he is consumed by the evil forest, and you are fighting the blue magic thing..... you can't kill Mack or its game over, obviously.... Do you have to get him to like critical health or am I completely missing an item or skill???

I've never played any of those games, just the Age of Empires series. I'll sit there and waste significant chunks of my life playing that shit! lol

Just picked this game up and it's pretty tight so far even though I haven't done much.

.. and on a side note Blue Dragon was fucking horrible. I didn't even try to finish that game. I did kind of like Enchanted Arms for the 360 even though it seems a lot of folks didn't care for it too much.
