Any Ethnomusicologists here or anyone with that sort of interest?
The genre was featured in a BBC documentary as well as a few other specials on music I've seen.
Basically its the vocal music of some Eastern European mountain shepherds, not sure if it was Armenian or Bulgarian, or something completely different.
It is characterized by dissonant, grating harmonies that are very close in tone and by a yelling, almost shouting style.
There is also a female version that is a 'lighter' sort of sound but has many of the same musical qualities, though it is more about harmony and melody.
I wish I could be more specific, but this is all I got right now.
