Any Ethnomusicologists here or anyone with that sort of interest?

The genre was featured in a BBC documentary as well as a few other specials on music I've seen.

Basically its the vocal music of some Eastern European mountain shepherds, not sure if it was Armenian or Bulgarian, or something completely different.

It is characterized by dissonant, grating harmonies that are very close in tone and by a yelling, almost shouting style.

There is also a female version that is a 'lighter' sort of sound but has many of the same musical qualities, though it is more about harmony and melody.

I wish I could be more specific, but this is all I got right now.

I got some of what I think you're talking about. Too bad you can't access my files on SoulSeek.

Try out:

Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares

Is that it? That would be the female version.

It's almost definitely Balkan music, from Bulgaria, and it stretches across the entire southeastern europe region. I wish I had some mp3 examples for you, I should because I kind of dig that stuff when I hear it out (i do a bit of Cultural Anthro work), but never really pursued it enough to get it on my system.

Ill try and hunt down some stuff for you, In the meantime look up stuff like "Bulgarian Chant Ensemble" and you should find some.

It could also be Hungarian music, aka the Magyar culture folk music.
radio station here, opens in winamp: http://katolikusradio.agria.hu/
Although i dont think they do much yelling in the hungarian style.
