hardest fucking situation ever. my girl and i went out for 2 years, and were together every day. she was my lover and my best friend. she just left for school in NY, so we decided that long term shit doesnt work. i mean, we could still say that "we're together", but what does that mean? 4,000 miles is a separation no matter what. that doesnt mean that i dont still love her, cuz i do, and it kills me that i cant be with her. so, to cut to the chase, we're not "going out", but we talk every day, and im planning on visiting her, etc.
It can work. It sucks, but it can. I've been in one for about 5 mo. now...the main thing is getting to see each other, and planning when and how to be together (preferably ASAP).
The main problem for me is physicality - it's tough not to flirt, etc., but you learn to deal. Then again Hustle since you're all about feelings and lesbians have no libido that wont be an issue for you.

honestly the not flirting wasn't even really an issue to me. what i think messed us up was that we were spoiled. we'd always be together and doing shit and then when she left it just sucked. the main reason i decided to break it off and even bring it up was because she'd cry constantly when we'd be on the phone etc. and i really didn't want her college experience to about that.

Went out with my high school sweetheart for five years...2 in high school...3 long distance when she went to college...cheated on her...fucked off the relationship...just recently got in touch with her, and cleared my head...but I carried around a lot of regret for a long time...I was 20, 21 at the time, so looking back on it I could say it was capricious youth, right after our breakup I would have said long distance is impossible, but today I would say that you can do it...it hinges on communication, and integrity...aint that a bitch?
I've had my girl for over 5 years. After almost 4 years she got sent to prison, serving a 4 year bid. She's down south, just north of San Diego, and I'm in the Bay, but we're still together. She got knocked down to 35% serving time so she gets out in about 54 days, but she's been in there for a year and 8 months. It's been one of the hardest 2 1/2 years of my life (before prison, she was in county, then she got out on OR, tried and convicted almost a year after that). So, long distance can work out, you just have to be willing to make it work, you have to be willing to sacrifice some things. Your girl is still available to you any time you want to see her. The state of California tells me when I can and can't see my girl, and she's not only a flight or 7 hour drive away, she's behind walls and shit too, lol. Can't have sex with her, can't sleep with her, can only kiss and hug her twice when I see her (when you get there and when you leave). It's going to be a bitch because we have to start all over when she gets back.
