my only question is, when will the people figure out that music is only a 2nd cousin to movies and acting? well written scripts get Oscars. well written albums get grammys. no difference.

why do you think its such a big deal when rappers or what ever make human errors? chi ali shooting dude. mystical raping that bitch who stole from him. c murder "aledegly" (<<sp?) killing that kid in a night club? or what ever the case is. media and people believe it. shit i bet if you pull jay z record it may not have 1 arrest and let him tell it he supplied the whole eastern seaboard with cocaine.

them muthafuckas is regular. they put they pants on just like you. 1 leg at a time. drama sells better than anything. so when you can create a buzz off a story line, you can kill the game better then just with good music.

my 2 pennies.....

True.

Rappers have been ENTERTAINING in that manner since the mid to late 80's when "Gangsta Rap" kicked into high gear. Since the days of N.W.A. when it was believed that all the members were actual "Gangstas", turns out only 2 of the 5 (6 if you want to count the D.O.C.) were in fact actually gang affliated.

Yet, Ice Cube (being non gang affliated) was the head of the group, by writing most if not all of N.W.A's / Eazy E's material in the beginning (which is what blew them up).

I don't think people have actually got a grip on it yet. Gangstas / Thugs and the music business don't mix. Prime examples would be numorous encarcerated rappers (those albums from jail / prison are played out). The most notorious example would be Death Row Records, that's a prime example of keeping it real gone too far.

Once you are in the million dollar Game, there is no need to prove anything to anybody. It makes less sence to be hardcore and ruin your up and coming career over some street shit. That defeats the whole purpose in the struggle to get out the ghetto / hood. The point is to get out and stay out and although you may still be hood / ghetto you don't weaken out and let it drag you back to the place you started from (like Al Pacino in The Godfather) or worse. To commit a crime, or do something stupid to promote yourself is even more iggnorant. In 10-15 years nobody will give a shit and have forgotten about you, while your ass is still locked up. Besides, fame and money do you no good if your ass is sitting behind bars for the rest of your life.

Dr. Dre and artist like Slick Rick amongst others have stressed that point so much, but people are presitant in only hearing what they want.

Yea he lied about being more street than his is, but in the mainstream, who listens to music based on how hard some one is? Not the millions that have bought his music, they listen and buy what the radio plays and what videos are on bet and mtv. I mean I don't even like the dude, but look how paid he is The fact he's a lier is not going to hurt his pocket one bit.

And Gemini's post is on point.........

That's what I'm saying though SHEA,

Everybody in the industry has lied from the gate, be it that now the Game has changed and the bigger the crime, the amount of times you been shot, or the amount of time behind bars is enough to grab peoples attention (unfortunely).

Ice Cube lied about being gang affliated, yet is a millionaire and is considered a legend to the Rap game (love it, or hate it). He's no different than say, Akon, or a Vanilla Ice per say...only difference is he's still making money. BUT! he lied to get to where he wanted to get to. Nobody would have even bothered to of listened to what any rapper had to say if it wasn't "Gansta Rap" at the time (mid to late 80's). Today, it's "Street Cred", only difference is, this newer generation doesn't realize it's entertainment and ends up getting caught up. Artist like Ice Cube on the other hand, continue to entertain in different avenues.

So they lied about being gang affliated in the mid to late 80's and so on, the Game has stepped up musically, so the lies are much greater today as well.

ever buddy wants to be a gangster
I feel that's a sign of insecurity for a lot of people. I guess it's a some what way of feeling protected. It's that "Don't fuck with him, he's a Gangsta", type mentality alot instill in people, but that falls under the first rule of the game of life. Never underestimate anybody under any circumstances.

Just a because a non affiliated John Doe looks like he won't do shit, may be the dude to actually lay you flat on your back.

The sad part about this is that I would've bumped his shit even without the fabricated criminal background.

He's a fucking singer. He never needed any street cred to begin with IMO.

I don't think anyone would have minded if his songs about the struggle and jail time were vicarious, a lot of music is...

But making up stories is kinda lame.

I could give two shits about an artists criminal background and street cred anyways. I listen to music for the music...not anything else. But its never a good look to get caught lying like this.

is anybody surprised? I don't exactly think OG when I think Akon...

At any rate, I think a lot of people don't understand that you need to sell yourself as an act in order to be successful in the music business. Maybe nobody would give him the time of day until he made up some shit, and if that's what it takes for you to make your millions, fuck it, I'd lie too.
I don't think this will impact his career much.

I don't know why he had to lie. I didnt even know about his story of being locked up for 4 years. I really could care less. It's kinda annoying that he lied about it, cuz he coulda sang about the same shit and people would still feel it. The label or publicist mighta suggested he tell that story. I hate fake people, but his music is still on point.

So it would make sense when he humps
15 year old girls on stage
and then throws 15 year old boys
off of it.
lol what?

the girl was in a 18+ club.. the kid was asking for it, tho he prob shuda kept his anger under control, or at least have his boys do it.

but that still has nuthin to do with lying about your past. i guess it's just because I really could care less about his "street cred" and didnt even know about his story of being locked up for 4 years. eryone knows u exaggerated in songs, but u dont have to continue to lie in interviews, making shit up.
