i think its inner issues of the music business (both artist and label, *AND A&R*) keeping sd from that...thats my opinion i cant speak for every mc on what theyd do...our city has some personality issues to work out before were even primed to fuck with the labels full of paperwork and so on...i wont say its a hood issue but its a mindstate issue, as we're not in a big city full of major labels and most are trained to get it on they own out here and not fall for that basketball dream...even with money in front of them, most (emcees) out here seem against working within the industry. maybe theyve seen money come in without it. im not saying theres anything wrong with that, but theres only one reason jayo felony became known around the us...
as bluntly as i can put it, rappers are whores. you have to give it up to get there. what youre doing might be the methaphoric version of sucking dick or getting fucked, but looks like that's your job to make it successful.
unless you just want to mc for the love and go with the wind, if you receive money or love from it thats the fruits of your labor. if not, oh well.
im glad we have mcs that think like that in sd. i want people to make music because its what they feel, not because they see a hustle.
maybe its better sd artists stay out of xxl. i know yall think it would be nice to get the buzz, but is it really? lets keep sd, sd.
we'll speak for ourselves more than a magazine ever will.
