I have no problem with an independant party, in fact I encourage one as this bi-partisan shit is clearly for the fucking birds.
However until independants produce a candidate who can take a clear third of the vote, you going to the polls and voting independant is the equivalent of not voting. It's throwing a vote away.
Even if the Indy gets 15% of the vote that still is not enough to make a dent and it won't help the cause. It all boils down to getting a candidate that makes people want to vote.
A vote right now for independant is a literal vote for the incumbent...whether they are democrat or republican. Now that is of course theoretical I will admit but statistics show that had a third party candidate not been on the ballot then those votes would likely go to the person opposing the incumbent. Voting for the 3rd guy takes away those votes (in theory) from guy 2 so guy 1 has a better chance of pulling it out.
Why do you think republicans have been helping Nader get on ballots?
People who want to vote independant I want to know why. Is it just to be different? Is it just to say you voted? I mean, thats not being a part of the process. What issues do these candidates really stand for? Can they deliver those promises on said issues?
As long as the democrats and republicans hold as much power in congress as they do it won't matter if George Washington returned from the grave, declared independant and won. All you will have is an independant figurehead who can't do a fucking thing.

Ron, its a process. I understand exactly what you are saying and if you take it to the next step you'll see that the first election the 3rd party is not going to win but if it has a strong enough showing, say 20%, then the next time, people may vote for a 25-30% and so on. The thing that is holding this back is the hopeless attitude that you just summarized. A vote for Nader is a vote for Bush, well we have to start looking further down the road, see the big picture for once. The more people start to do this, the easier it will be to get out from under the two-headed beast and have true electoral representation. Plus, you brought up an excellent point, are we only voting for president elections or at each election, beginning with your city council, state house and federal representatives. EAch of us has to vote this way at every election in order to produce real change and shift in power. If we spent as much time talking to people and trying to reason with them to think about the future through the electoral process as we spend talking shit to each other on the internet, the nation would slowly start to come around and get rid of the two-faced, dual party bullshit we've grown up in.

@naner12,

It doesn't matter if the independent parties have no chance of winning. The point is to show america the importance of an independent party and to expose the Democrats and Republicans as "two heads of the same seven headed dragon" (-Immortal Technique). Both parties do NOT represent the interests of the average american and I know you can agree with me on that. We will not win now, but it's important to fight for the future. By supporting an independent party it is helping the cause of building a party for the future and to reach out to the masses with our ideologies

You can vote kerry if you please. Just remember my warnings about kerry and the democrats.

People often ask to decide which is better; Kerry or Bush?

It is the same as asking an imamate on death row how he prefers to be executed; Hanging or Electric Chair?
i understand what youre saying but how is the lesser of the evil faulty? i'm all for independent parties and i would LOVE for an independent party that has the same idealogies as some of the people i see getting in debates all the time win president because i know a change will come. but the fact is we are living in the right now and right now its either Bush or Kerry. i don't understand how voting for an independent party is going to change peoples perspectives on them. in all honesty i doubt most people would even hear about the independent parties votes at all because they don't want you to know his policy. the only way is for a candidate to get his name out there and to show what he's about. not everyone is going to research about every candidate that's is running for president the fact is most people just vote right pass the other names. is it up to his party, and his party alone because i know 100% that the media will not support it, to educate and open peoples eyes.
