Kobe Bryant isn't happy with the Lakers' direction and wants Jerry West back in Los Angeles to fix things.

Bryant told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher that he wants the Lakers to bring West back to the organization and give him full authority. If the Lakers don't want to do that, Bryant said he wants to be traded.

Bryant is frustrated that the team has not made any significant moves since it re-signed him.

"I want to see us get to a contending level," he told The Los Angeles Times. "I want to see us become a championship contender. It's been a frustrating process for me and I'm sure it's been a frustrating process for all Laker fans. I'm just hoping we can get to that level. I'm still frustrated. I'm waiting for them to make some changes."

Mitch Kupchak is the current Lakers general manager.

West, who spent five seasons in Memphis, will leave his post as the Grizzlies' director of basketball operations July 1 at the end of his contract. West helped build the Lakers' dynasty in the '80s and engineered their rebirth in the '90s, overseeing seven NBA championship teams -- including back-to-back champions in 1987-1988 and three consecutive crowns from 2000-2002.

In Memphis, West never had the advantages he enjoyed in the large market of Los Angeles, where he signed Shaquille O'Neal and traded Vlade Divac for Bryant.

Bryant averaged 31.6 points per game in 2007 as the Lakers qualified for the seventh seed in the Western Conference with a 42-40 record. Los Angeles lost in five games to the Suns, however, and the Lakers haven't won a championship since O'Neal was traded to the Heat.

Any of you hoe cakes would love Kobe on your team; deny it all you want, but you know, deep down in your scrotum, it's true.

Post the negatives, but you'd take him all day.

And what's funny is that what he is saying is TRUE. These people haven't done SHIT to help the team. Portland has. Houston has. The list could go on and on...

Lol, he got what he wanted, which is to be the marquee franchise player. Now when he realizes that its not as easy as he thought and he see's that he cant lead a team out the first round of the playoffs...he wanna be traded. Sad....

Hahahahahha here we go again!! I was schoolin fools before i left this site years ago and i guess i have to again!! Kobe is a ball hogg and he is the reason the Lakers are garbage!! he fucked off a great team with Shaq because he was tired of bein second fiddle!! Now that he cant lead a team like LeBron far through the playoffs he crys like a trick!! And Portland wouldnt trade that #1 pick for Kobe....are yall smokin?? Oden will be a dominant center and will rings a few rings before he retires so yall trippin!! He needs to shut up and play to make his teammates better and score we he needs to. Odom is a allstar talent but he cant play with Kobe cause Kobe is a hog and he intimidates Odom cause LA lets Kobe do what he wants!! if I was Odom I would demand a trade!!! Got Em!!!

I don't know how many times I have had to type this up because people cannot seem to comprehend. If you were on a team of all 1st graders, who would take the most shots? YOU. Why? Because you are the best on the team and your teammates are obviously not good enough. Now, the Lakers squad is equal to 1st graders of the NBA. They are plain garbage. Odom is one of the sofest and most inconsistent "stars" I've ever seen. He puts up 20 and 10 one night and then 6 and 8 the next...Kobe passes the ball, but assists only count when your teammates make their shots. Unfortunately, none of them seem to do and players like Kwame can't even catch the ball, let alone make a shot. Now it is easy to blame Kobe for being a ball hog, but that is because he has to be for his team to even have a chance. If you don't agree with me, listen to the ESPN and TNT broadcasters, they all see it the same way. Kobe has to be dominant and aggressive for the Lakers to be close in the games. If you think Kobe is the reason the Lakers suck you are a complete idiot and need to go learn something about basketball.

it aint all bout leading a team you gotta have role players that know their role and do it look at jordan he had role players he didnt juss do it all by himself nor did magic or larry and the old and new pistons as well as the spurs they got people that step up make shots and play good as a team one person cant do it by himself it takes a team he is only human and can do so much and the lakers havent given him shit to work with they were garbage KOBE was the only star on that team everybody else needs to be cut (NOT REALISTIC) but he is right it has been frustrating bein a laker fan seein my team play like garbage wit only one bright spot KOBE
