Kimbo Slice Quits Boxing

So much for the great Kimbo Slice boxing experiment.

The former street fighting sensation turned MMA fighter abruptly quit his pursuit of becoming a boxing star in October, Slice's former promoter Jared Shaw told MMA Fighting.

"[Slice left the boxing training camp] due to some various injuries and to go film The Scorpion King. Upon his return, he didn't show me any interest in boxing, so we just decided for right now to put it to the side," Shaw said.

"In boxing, in order to be amongst the best in the world, he was going to have to put in double the work he was accustomed to. Due to the wear and tear on his body, he wasn't able to perform up to the standard we wanted him to."

Slice said in August that he would pursue a boxing career. He never actually competed in a boxing match.

The Inoki Genome Federation pro wrestling organization announced on Tuesday that Slice will take part in its 8-man tournament on February 5th in Fukuoka, Japan, against former Sumo wrestler Shinichi "Wakakirin" Suzukawa. If you recall, "Wakakirin" was supposed to face Bob Sapp at Dynamite!! 2010 until Sapp pulled out on fight night due to undisclosed reasons. Josh Barnett will also reportedly compete in the tournament.

Shaw said he hasn't talked to Slice since October. He was surprised to hear of Slice's new gig, but added, "I think Kimbo Slice's days as a fighter are close to an end."

I never really pictured him as anything more than popular street fighter, I mean honestly who thinks he busted his ass training for those backyard brawls? I sure don't and when it came time to step it up against real competition he failed, Elite XC carried him for awhile but that can only last so long. I forgot who said this but its true, something like "Kimbo will always be the toughest guy at the neighborhood BBQ but that's it." I mean he gave it a try at least.

I actually think the pro wrestling thing will be good for him, he seems like he has the right attitude for it and can probably make good money and the Japanese love things like that. I mean look at Bob Sapp, not an impressive fighter but he is making a living.

Japanese love things like that? Like what, big black men
Yes big black men lol, no. Pro wrestling is pretty big in Japan and they do like the big freak show types, go look back at some of the MMA events they have had. The super hulk tournements they had there were big. They like pro wrestling and they like the freak show stuff, Kimbo can fit right in to what is some what popular over there.

He did exactly what he was supposed to do in the UFC, which was get people to watch The Ultimate Fighter. Fighting skills aside, people tuned in to see this guy, period.

I think the pro wrestling move is the smartest move he could have made. The learning curve isn't as difficult, the chances of injury are way lower, he can still cash in on his success, and pro wrestling is a sport where your career can last until you're a OG triple OG...look at Ric Flair's old ass. lol

i voted option #4, but would liked to have voted for a combo between 3 & 4. there is no legit combat sport that he could succeed in, but he should keep beating up bums in his backyard none-the-less.

I can't hate on Kimbo lol. I hope he makes his money any way possible. He will get destroyed in MMA and boxing, so wrestling/backyard brawling is his only way of winning a fight

If he was gettin' gassed from three 5 minute rounds in MMA, imagine what would happen in boxing. And boxing matches are how long, 12 rounds? I don't think he has the stamina or cardio to last that long. An ass whoopin' is an ass whoopin', but I liked him better when he was streetfighting. All his streetfights combined were more entertaining than any of his MMA matches! I'm sure the money was better in UFC, but he couldn't even cut it in StrikeForce. Shit, if some guy with pink hair (Seth Petruzelli) whooped my ass, I would've been a little hesitant on stepping back into the cage.
