i like them... i dont love them... they are more metalcore than anything.. howard jones (only been with them for their latest album) voice is pretty good ranging from screaming to very projected singing.. ultimately, they are a hit or miss band on top of being a love them or hate them band... not my fav, but they are listenable

I like the new lead singer more than the old one...and they are melodic and brutal all in one.

As Daylight Dies is their latest...2006.

Here is a review and gives a good desrcitpion of their style...except for the annoying part.

A Good Album!
This is by far, their best album yet. But I think they change their tempos way too much in this album. I mean, like in the song "For You", it goes from hard metal and screaming to melodic and a singing chorus. Then it keeps going back and forth. It's still good, but gets kind of annoying. But, other than that, it's a very good album.

Damn!! I thought theyre decent at best, well I own a couple albums from them...

Seems like the majority of all bands mainstream or indie are weak nowadays or mediocre at best, but that's what I'm noticing so far from the fans perspective......

I don't like the vocals at all. It's the same generic screaming vocals you hear in so many bands. Clean vocals are the same way. They're just very unoriginal. All the songs follow the same soft/clean vocals to screaming format (or vice-versa).

Music is simple and repetitive. It lacks any depth, and though the substance of the lyrics are relatable, the lyrics lack any commendable use of language and are negligible.

Overall, just a boring band. It's the kind of stuff they play on the radio because it's loud and "feels" heavy.

I dont like Converge...Cave In is ok.
I'm sure you actually hate Converge lol. I love that band, haven't put out a weak album yet IMO and put on one hell of a live show.

I kind of like Cave In. I really liked one of their albums that I bought used (forget the name) but then they kind of got boring to me.

I just checked out Killswitch Engage for the first time. I agree with Redstorm more or less 100%. It's just sounds like generic cookie cutter metalcore to me.

Ive lost most my respect for the metalcore scene... although I did enjoy KSEs 'Alive or Just Breathing'.... everything else that followed is shit IMO
There is still quite abit of great Metalcore out there. But just like anything that becomes popular it got watered down by 100's of shitty bands.

Exactly. Those 100+ shitty metalcore bands basically shifted my interest in finding good ones. I still have love for a few ( Shadows Fall, All That Remains ) mainly because they were the first of the genre I had heard and enjoyed.

Nuttkase, what metalcore bands IYO are good and worth checking out?

Some of my faves are...

Suffokate
Norma Jean
Bring Me the Horizon
Oh, Sleeper
I Killed the Prom Queen
The Devil Wears Prada

But I agree, I've become pretty unimpressed with alot in the genre as well.

I highly recommened Bring Me the Horizon, Norma Jean and Suffokate.

I Killed the Prom Queen and The Devil Wears Prada could kind of be considered part of the whole "scene" aspect of the metalcore scene, but they make good music IMO.
