PRESS RELEASE: IT'S SHOWTIME closes deal with new K-1 organization.

With immediate effect, IT'S SHOWTIME closed a multi-year deal with the new owner of the K-1 label, Mr. Mike Kim. The company of Mr. Kim is called K-1 Global and is established in Hong Kong.

Even though this new company didn't have any obligations towards our company and our fighters, K-1 Global has paid all of our fighters this week. This means that every fighter received a signing bonus which consists of 50% of the money that was still owed to them by the old company FEG.

K-1 will organize 4 big events already this year, including the final 16 and final 8 in the 70kg and heavyweight division. The bonuses the fighters can win will be astronomically high, but we leave it up to the company of K-1 Global to announce these amounts. We will also leave it up to them to announce the event schedule, but three weeks from now everything will be announced.

The following fighters have already signed a contract with K-1 on behalf of IT'S SHOWTIME: Daniel Ghita, Tyrone Spong, Hesdy Gerges, Paul Slowinski, Rico Verhoeven, Anderson ‘Braddock' Silva, Ben Edwards, Melvin Manhoef, Sergii Lashchenko, Mourad Bouzidi, Dzevad Poturak, Chahid Oulad El Hadj, Gago Drago and Andy Ristie.

Contracts which are ready to be signed with K-1 this week: Ruslan Karaev, Harut Grigorian, Chris Ngimbi, etc.

There have been several contracts signed with other big names in kickboxing, but these are not under contract with IT'S SHOWTIME, so we wait for K-1 Global to announce these names.

We are very happy with these positive developments in our sport and for all fighters in the world who now get the possibilities to show their talent in K-1.

Simon Rutz

K-1 Announces World MAX Final 16

The information regarding K-1 is really beginning to pour out and in a hurry. The show that we all knew was happening has finally been formally announced by the new owners of K-1. LiverKick took some time today to speak with Doug Kaplan, the head of K-1 Global, and were impressed with what we heard. A part of K-1's big push today involves this press announcement which was sent out to the media today. This announcement solidifies the names that we've seen kicked around for the MAX tournament, with a few spots still open.

The big news are the participants in the K-1 World MAX Final 16 so far, which we have the names of twelve fighters, with four spots still being negotiated. Also there are a few Heavyweight Superfights being planned, with some absolutely huge names in talks to fight. Hopefully we'll have more on that next week, as well as venue information.

Andy Souwer (Holland)

Mike Zambidis (Greece)

Drago (Armenia)

Artur Kyshenko (Ukraine)

Yasuhiro Kido (Japan)

Yuji Nashiro (Japan)

Su Hwan Lee (Korea)

Abraham Roqueni (Spain)

Chahid (Morocco)

Longern Superpro Samui (Thai)

Harut Grigorian (Belgium)

Chris Ngimbi (Congo)

K-1 Announces HW Participants for May 27

Well we know that the K-1 card in Madrid on May 27 will be the the MAX Final 16, but there's also going to be some super fights. There have been a lot of rumors going around as to what heavyweights are going to be on the card. K-1 just sent out a press release, announcing the heavyweight participants for the card on May 27 in Madrid. They are as follows:

Mirko Cro Cop (Croatia)

Daniel Ghita (Romania)

Anderson "Braddock" Silva (Brazil)

Paul Slowinski (Poland/Australia)

Rico Verhoeven (Netherlands)

Loren Javier Jorge (Spain)

Sergei Lascenko (Ukraine)

The super fights for the heavyweights will be announced soon, and with that, so will the match-ups for the MAX Final 16, probably. Don't be surprised if a few other names show up when they announce the fights.

Update: K-1 just said there would be more big news about the 8th fighter. (If you noticed, only seven were announced.)

There's a rumor that Badr could be the 8th. Also it's been confirmed that he's coming back for the World Grand Prix this year.
I'm guessing he only considered boxing when K-1 didn't have the money to pay him. Now we just need Ubereem to get banned from the UFC so he can defend the title.

K-1 headed to LA, Miami, Taipei & NY!

K-1 Global held a press conference to unveal Masato as the new executive producer today, but they also revealed the locations of all their events this year.

K-1 will hold five events this year, downgraded from the seven originally planned. The shows in summer have been scrapped, but from September to December, there are four K-1 events. They are as follows:

Early September - Qualifying World GP 2012/World MAX 2012 in Los Angeles
October - K-1 World GP 2012 Final 16 in Miami
November - K-1 World MAX 2012 Final in Taipei
December - K-1 World GP 2012 Final in New York

So it looks like the World MAX tournament will stage the Final 8 in Taipei, while the World Grand Prix (Heavyweight) tournament gets started off with the Final 16 in Miami and then the Final 8 in New York. Pretty interesting, to say the least.

First, though, is the K-1 World MAX Final 16, which is on May 27 in Madrid, Spain. 16 fighters will fight to advance to the World MAX 2012 Final in Taipei.

------------

holy shit I gotta try to go to the WGP Final in NY

Spike TV gives K-1 television deal for '12/13

SPIKE TV AND K-1, THE WORLD’S PREMIER KICKBOXING PROMOTION, AGREE TO MULTI-PLATFORM PARTNERSHIP FOR 2012 AND 2013

New York, NY, August 20, 2012 – Spike TV and K-1, the world's premier kickboxing organization, have agreed to a strategic partnership that will begin this fall with live fights streamed on Spike.com beginning Saturday, September 8 at the U.S. World Grand Prix Championships in Los Angeles. There will be a total of four events that will be streamed live in 2012. In 2013, the K-1 events will move from Spike.com to Spike TV to coincide with the network’s extensive coverage of Bellator Fighting Championships.

“We are thrilled to be in business with the world’s preeminent kickboxing organization,” said Jon Slusser, Senior Vice President, Sports and Multiplatform Events, Spike TV. “Spike has the most passionate and knowledgeable fans of combat sports and we are confident that they will enjoy the high-action of K-1, which serves as the perfect complement to our Bellator coverage next year.”

"K-1 is excited to join forces with Spike TV, a powerful and highly experienced cable network known nationally for its combat sports programming, presenting our live K-1 events," said Doug Kaplan, CEO, K-1. "Spike is the perfect television home and stage to introduce our K-1 warriors and the fast-paced, aggressive style of K-1 fighting to fight fans across America."

Spike.com’s 2012 coverage will include unprecedented access to K-1 events, from live streaming of the weigh-ins the day before the bouts, to locker room interviews, to live coverage of every fight on the card, including all the prelims.

The four K-1 events in 2012 include:

September 8 - Los Angeles - U.S. Grand Prix Championship

October 14 - Tokyo, Japan - World Grand Prix Final

December 8 - Athens, Greece - MAX Final

December 26 - New York - World Grand Prix Final

The addition of K-1 to Spike TV’s lineup next year further establishes the network as the premier television destination for combat sports. Spike TV will debut Bellator Fighting Championships in January 2013 with a weekly live fight card featuring some of the best rising stars in the mixed martial arts world.

K-1 is the largest kickboxing promotion in history. Since 1993, K-1 has presented professional live martial arts events in 38 countries, featuring the best and most accomplished athletes in the sport.

World Grand Prix Champions of K-1 include Alistair Overeem, Mark Hunt, Ernesto Hoost, Peter Aerts, Remy Bonjasky and Semmy Schilt. K-1 returned to the world stage on May 26, 2012 in Madrid, Spain, drawing a packed stadium and hundreds of thousands of views on the K-1 Live Stream.
