After consulting with my triple OG, he put me up on the first group to put it down on the KC rap scene. The name of the group was Foe-B-Low. Foe-B-Low consisted of Miguel the Cunning, Renegade, Dreds, and Vell Bakardy. Guided by their manager Dawud Muhammad, they put out the first local independent rap tape in KC back in 1990. This was the first rap group to be recognized by The Pitch, and was awarded the first "rap group of the year" title. Foe-B-Low was also the first KC rap group to tour the local college scene; KU, MU, CMSU, UMKC. They were the only local group to headline the Black Expo in KC back in the early 90's. As far as DJ's, even though DJ Fresh seems like he has been a DJ for eternity, some of the DJ pioneers before DJ Fresh was; DJ L.S. Flash, DJ KutFast, DJ Tony Roma, DJ K-Rock (later called DJ K-Rocafella), and the Knights of the Turntables. Other early notable KC producers were Too Sweet Vellie, and Damon Thomas. Damon Thomas went on to produce for various industry artists from Charlie Wilson to 2Pac, and is currently doing production for a group in L.A. called the Underdogs. These were the good ol' days in KC Hip-Hop, when everybody worked with everybody else. Last but not least Hobo Tone was putting it down from KCK at the same time, he is definately the Godfather of reppin' the KS side of the KC rap scene. Oh yea, Foe-B-Low stood for, Fucking Over Every Bitch Ladies & Other Women. Back then your name stood something, knowhatimsayin.
