I knew Paul was going to come through. He was way out of shape the last time, and was almost 10 pounds over the limit.

This looks like the Paul that thrashed Tony Margarito a few months back...

I think that if he can stay in shape and make weight, he causes too many matchup problems. He's a southpaw with freakish reach, and his workrate is just scary. And last night he showed that he has some pop...which I really didn't think he did prior to this.

With Mayweather out of the picture, I think this guy can definitely give Cotto problems, being that Cotto is only 5'7...he'd be giving up a huge height advantage.

I don't get that reasoning. Quintana decisively beat him last time around it wasn't like it was a one punch KO. What's flukish about that?
Good point, didn't really think of it that way. I guess I was just impressed that Williams came out as strong as he did, which I didn't see coming at all.

Pavlik-Calzaghe Oct 18?

Sunday, June 8 2008

By Matt Richardson

WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik's promoter Bob Arum says he is in talks with promoter Frank Warren in regard to a possible showdown between Pavlik and unbeaten WBC/WBA/WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe. The target date for Pavlik-Calzaghe would be October 18. If that bout can't be made, Arum said Pavlik would fight two more times this year, in September and again in December. Adding fuel to the fire was Pavlik's destruction of Calzaghe's stablemate Gary Lockett, who is trained by Joe's father Enzo Calzaghe.

Quintana Wants Paul Williams Trilogy, Vows To Return

By Mark Vester

Former champion Carlos Quintana is hurting from the latest setback in his career, but he would like another crack at WBO welterweight champion Paul Williams. In February, Quintana upset Williams by outboxing him over twelve-rounds to earn a well desereved decision and the welterweight title. Last Saturday at the Mohegan Sun, Williams blew Quintana away with a first-round knockout to avenge his only loss and to reclaim his WBO strap. Quintana would like to fight Williams for a third time.

"I am a warrier, and like any athlete - the loss hurts me. I don't like to lose, but I have to accept it. I can understand if it had been an overwhelmed fight that closed in five or six-rounds, but he knocked me out in the first-round. He caught me cold. I would like another opportunity to fight Williams in the future," Quintana told El Nuevo Dia.

Quintana vows to return, whether it be against Williams, fighting for a vacant title or another opponent in the welterweight division.

"There is a desire to continue, but it depends on what my team says. I realize that I have the talent. I realize that there are other boxers out there that I can fight. Paul Williams is not an easy fight. He beat me and he beat Margarito who now challenges Cotto. Maybe I can go after a vacant title or a possible eliminator to land a title fight. I'm going to take a few months off to rest and then make a decision on what I plan to do next," Quintana said.

I'm glad Ponce got KO'd. My money was on Lopez. De Leon fights like he can just run through people. He got handled.

I don't think there should be a rubber match with Williams and Quintana. It doesn't have enough build up. Williams needs to go for bigger fights. If he can't get them, then ya...take the rubber match.

They are talking about Pavlik vs Calzaghe in October. I personally think that this is where Calzaghe's road ends. If the fight doesnt happen they are looking at Pavlik fighting twice more this year (Sept and Dec).

Feel bad for Forrest. I dont think he should retire, he needs to keep fighting to make a living. Pretty good gate keeper.
