Yes, it's true because Phil says so.

Again, how is that not different from Mac's statment? I, along with many others, find it to be true that money is above everything else when it comes to Conservatives. Therefore, according to dr.phillip logic, it is true.

Do you deny that the "most liberal" assessment comes from only 2003?

Fox News, O'Reilly, and the conservative media have somehow turned "liberal" into a swear word...thus, call someone liberal, and mindless sheep freak out.
LMAO!!!!!!! Liberals are the ones that turned it into a swear word for themselves.

anytime some1 calls them a liberal they try and run from it as fast as they can. why not be proud of what they are???

Conservatives dont go around saying "hey dont call me a conservative, it's embarrasing" they wear that shit proudly.

Sources Mclean? Which 3 times?

If he was the most liberal 3 times in his term, why did his adjusted career average put him in the middle of the Democratic party? Let's do the math.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that for every term there were only 40 democrats in the senate.
A higher number would make this even harder for you to prove, so the low estimate of 40 is helping out your case. At any rate, let's say John Kerry's voting record is 40/40 (40/40 being most liberal) in terms of liberalism for three times in a row. As of right now, he is ranked 40 out of 40 in Liberalism out of 3 terms, or 120 "liberal points".

In order for him to even make an overall rating of 30/40 in terms of liberalism, (which is even *more liberal* than his adjusted average of 23rd out of 48), he would have had to have a 0 "liberal voting record" for his fourth term. This, just to make 30th most liberal Senator out of the total 40. To make 23rd/48, which is his weighted overall average in a senate of 40 democrats, he would have had to have been 19th least liberal in our example...19/40.

To make an average of 19th/40 in liberalism, he would have had to have an overall score of 76. As it stands, his three most liberal terms put him at 120 "liberal points". So from 120 to 76, his fourth voting term would have to be -46 liberal points...in other words, more conservative than 45 Republican senators...which obviously never happened.

Thus, it is physically impossible for Kerry to have the most liberal voting record during three of his terms.

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX FRI FEB 27, 2004 09:39:45 ET XXXXX

NUMBER ONE: KERRY RANKED 'MOST LIBERAL' IN SENATE ROLL CALL VOTES, TOPS KENNEDY, CLINTON

NATIONAL JOURNAL on Friday claimed Democrat frontrunner John Kerry has the "most liberal" voting record in the Senate.

The results of Senate vote ratings show that Kerry was the most liberal senator in 2003, with a composite liberal score of 96.5 -- far ahead of such Democrat stalwarts as Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton.

NATIONAL JOURNAL's scores, which have been compiled each year since 1981, are based on lawmakers' votes in three areas: economic policy, social policy, and foreign policy.

"To be sure, Kerry's ranking as the No. 1 Senate liberal in 2003 -- and his earning of similar honors three times during his first term, from 1985 to 1990 -- will probably have opposition researchers licking their chops," NATIONAL JOURNAL reports.

Developing...

[The ratings system was first devised in 1981 under the direction of William Schneider, a political analyst and commentator at CNN, and a contributing editor to National Journal, who continues to guide the calculation process. Data processing and statistical analysis were performed by Information Technology Services of the Brookings Institution. A panel of National Journal editors and reporters initially compiled a list of 140 key congressional roll-call votes for 2003 -- 63 votes for the Senate and 77 for the House -- and classified them as relating to economic, social, or foreign policy. Roll-call data was drawn from the Congressional Record.]
