As someone who's fully appreciated and supported Jarryd Hayne's journey to the NFL from Australia and the NRL from the absolute beginning, this is fantastic news. I can't wait until he's succeeding at the highest level in the NFL; it'll finally shut these stupid American haters up, especially when he is consistently making the highlights. It'll bring respect for Australian athletes and the sport of Rugby, both of which are unknown or just not taken seriously in America. It will also bring a more competitive NFL, with a brighter more exciting future.

Will be interesting to see if he can make a team. I do know the Seahawks have met with him before and are at least somewhat interested.

I think if he's got a shot it's each what you said - special teams and maybe become a RB.

It's a gutsy move on his part because it's nearly impossible to cross over sports like that unless you're a kicker, so failure is much more likely than any kind of success.

Everything he knows as far as running and tackling he has to adjust, basically relearn everything. All of the fundamentals are totally different. Like watching his video's when he runs he runs straight up, thats not how you want to run as a RB in football, have to stay low, the footwork is different, etc. I would be amazed if he can make a team and contribute.
Football players can play rugby but rugby players cant play football. No disrespect to rugby players, its a great game, but when you slap the pads on you hit a different way.
First off - everyone is entitled to their own opinion - so I appreciate yours.

But you can ask anyone who's played football - pads do nothing - and football players don't aim for legs - they aim for however the fuck they can not only take you down but destroy you. And there's more speed and velocity in the game than there is in rugby. Its not a tough guy thing - there's plenty of tough guys in every sport. Football is about either running someone over or destroying them, and weight * speed = momentum, plus the fact football stops play which allows players to reset over and over and run at each other full speed, that makes it different.

If I hear of this guy having a regular role or being a starter I will paypal you enough to buy a few beers.
I'd like to thank this thread for letting me finally realize that F @Fucky McFuckerson is I Pokemon MaoMao

other than that this thread is poop.....
How can you come to that conclusion when he hasnt played American football...ever? And is 27 years old? I would be surprised if he even sees the field at all next year. He MIGHT be a special teams guy, but if anyone thinks he is going to come in and play, youre high as all fuck.
That's one of the stupidest things I've heard all week.

NFL players break each others bones with their pads on all the time. This guy is not a superhero.

Your infatuation for rugby to be accepted and compared in any way to football is severely clouding your judgment amigo.
Bingo. Concussions have ZERO to do with how "tough" you are. Anyone can get hurt in a blink of an eye in any contact sport, especially those wearing hard plastic gear.
The whole "nfl is soft they wear pads" argument is reserved for europeans who've never played football.

If youve ever been speared in you knees, helmet or even your chest you'd know this.
Wearing the helmets/pads are what cause the concussions really. Without helmets you try to avoid head contact as much as possible. With pads you just fly into a person like a missile with no care in the world.

Anyways, regarding the Aussie I assume they limit him to nothing more than PR/KR and special teams, see how he does and go from there.
When did you see his workouts? Either way, workouts have very little to do with football in terms of the nuances of the game. Has he had live hitting drills yet? Has he put on the gear? Had a full practice? Does he even make the TEAM? All he is granted right now is a chance to get on the squad. There is no guarantee he even makes the 53 man roster or the PS. Thinking he is going to come in and fill some glaring hole for the 9ers is borderline lunacy.
