Snider: A.I. Wants Trade, So We'll Do It
Phil Jasner of THE PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS writes, "these were among the questions, not necessarily in direct order, Snider fielded during a meeting with reporters at halftime of the 76ers' 113-98 loss to the Washington Wizards last night at the Wachovia Center:

Is it time to trade Allen Iverson?
'Yes,' said the chairman of the Comcast-Spectacor group that oversees, among other entities, the 76ers and the Flyers.
Because?
'Because he wants to be traded.'
Has Iverson played his last game with the Sixers?
'Probably.'
Has Iverson's time passed with the Sixers?
'Yes.' "

^i cant belive it....the rumors are now tru

That would be nice but I'd like to do Mike Bibby, Jason Hart, and Brad Miller for Allen Iverson, Kevin Ollie, and Dalembert(sp?). And the other cat laughin at STOCKTON's potential deal, what's so funny about that? That's a reasonable offer cuze there is no way the 76ers could get full trade value for AI.
Damn that's what I was thinking except no Ollie.

For you Mother Fuckers who though AI for Bibby wasn't possible read!

Stephen A. Smith | Deal is all that matters now
By Stephen A. Smith
Inquirer Columnist

Here's what we know: Allen Iverson is gone.

Here's what we care about: Whatever the 76ers will get for him.

Here's what we'll hear: "It's his fault! It's their fault!" Coming from both sides.

Perhaps we'll care in the days and weeks to come.

Today, the primary concern should be preventing Iverson from becoming Charles Barkley, Part II, making sure the Sixers don't let go of their latest mercurial star for a bag of cheap beans thrown in the trash after Thanksgiving.

As Iverson's departure from Philadelphia appears imminent, there will be plenty of time to dissect this franchise.

We'll all ponder one day what life would be like for the Sixers right now if they had traded Iverson years ago when former coach Larry Brown insisted it was best for the franchise. We'll wonder what would have become of the coaching careers of Randy Ayers, Chris Ford, Jim O'Brien or even Mo Cheeks if they were faced with the challenge of coaching someone else instead of Iverson.

Questionable decisions by Billy King, the Sixers' president and general manager, will come into focus, as will those of team chairman Ed Snider, who some - not me, though - believe should fire himself. But none of that matters now.

What matters is that at least nine teams from the Eastern Conference called the Sixers yesterday. What matters is that Dallas, Chicago and the Clippers have potential deals the Sixers should want.

King's imagination can capitalize on potential deals with Minnesota, Boston, Denver, Sacramento or Golden State if any of those teams are willing to play ball. His knack for politics may even position him to pull off a heist with Chicago or Dallas. Perhaps the biggest plus of all is that King and the Sixers are no longer concerned with the 6-foot guard out of Georgetown who said, "As hard as it may be to admit, a change may be the best thing for everyone."

Said one Sixers source: "There was a time when Billy [King] cared about sending Iverson to a contender, just out of gratitude for all he's meant to this franchise. That time has passed. He ain't thinking about A.I. anymore. At least not on that level."

With that in mind, knowing the Sixers are in search of youth and fiscally sensible contracts, here's the lowdown:

Bulls: Chicago could send the expiring contracts of forwards P.J. Brown and Michael Sweetney, with guard Ben Gordon and a first-round pick to Philly for Iverson. Their brass will meet today but appear unlikely to make such a move.

Dallas: The Mavs could send the expiring contracts of Jerry Stackhouse and Austin Croshere, along with point guard Devin Harris. Problem? Owner Mark Cuban loves Harris and doesn't want any debate as to whether it will be Dirk Nowitzki's team.

Boston: Coach Doc Rivers is willing to surrender anyone other than Paul Pierce for Iverson. That includes Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair and forward Al Jefferson, if necessary. But Danny Ainge is running the show, and it's unclear what he'll be willing to do. Plus, Wally Szczerbiak or Theo Ratliff would have to come to Philly in order to make a deal work.

Golden State: Mike Dunleavy Jr., Troy Murphy or Jason Richardson would have to come to Philly to make a deal happen, but the Sixers would love to get their hands on Monta Ellis. The Warriors say they're not about to part with Ellis, but everyone talks that nonsense before a deal gets done.

Timberwolves: They barely have anyone the Sixers want, outside of Villanova product Randy Foye. Minnesota swears it's not about to let him go. We'll see.

Clippers:The Sixers shouldn't even talk to them unless they're willing to part with Corey Maggette and Shaun Livingston, which they are not willing to do.

Grizzlies: Eddie Jones' expiring contract is about the only asset the Grizzlies have to offer. Mike Fratello's toupee will fall off trying to coach Iverson.

Kings: Mike Bibby is owed $28 million over the final two years of his contract, but rumors have swirled he could opt out. Plus, Ron Artest loves Iverson. A long shot, of course, but you never know with the Kings' owners, the Maloof brothers.

Of course, there is always the possibility of multi-team deals, or a remote possibility that Iverson could be bought out of his contract. But that's venturing into the absurd, especially for a franchise with a few employees holding on by the skin of their teeth.

In time, we'll know where Iverson's going and what the Sixers have gotten for him.

Save the hostility for then. Not now.

Stephen A. Smith | Looking for a King's Ransom?

Sixers general manager Billy King fielded calls from numerous teams yesterday in trade talks for Allen Iverson.

Here are some of the players being discussed:

Everybody on the team is fair game except Paul Pierce. Expiring contracts of Austin Croshere,

Jerry Stackhouse plus Devin Harris.

Expiring contracts of P.J. Brown, Michael Sweetney, plus Ben Gordon, No.1 pick. Deal would need to include Corey Maggette, Shaun Livingston.

Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy Jr., Jason Richardson. Sixers most interested in Monta Ellis.

The hot topic in the NBA this weekend was the demand of Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson to be traded.

The Kings appear to be part of that conversation.

Since Friday, the Kings have been added to the short list of teams that are said to be -- according to various reports -- discussing trade options with the 76ers. On Sunday, a league source confirmed to The Bee that the Kings are involved, though it is not known whether they are pursuing Iverson or perhaps part of a deal involving more than two teams, or what they are offering.

The source declined to be identified because he was not authorized to discuss the deal.

At the Kings' game against Atlanta on Sunday, Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie would not say if he was in discussions involving Iverson.

"As a matter of rule, we do not discuss possible trades," he said.

Kings co-owners Joe and Gavin Maloof were also tight-lipped, even beyond the question of whether they're pursuing Iverson.

"Talk to Geoff, because I don't know," Joe Maloof said by phone.

Gavin Maloof paused before answering.

"Hmmm," he said. "You're going to have to ask Geoff."

Asked if he was a fan of Iverson's game, Gavin wouldn't comment.

"Well, I don't want to say, I don't want to say," Gavin said. "Check with Geoff."

Kings swingman John Salmons, a teammate of Iverson last season, was shocked by the news of Iverson's demands -- and owner Ed Snider's approval to pursue a deal.

"Just having been in that situation, I wanted to know what was going on," Salmons said. "I was surprised that he said it, that he actually said it."

If the Kings were, in fact, trying to land Iverson in Sacramento, the most obvious deal would likely involve the swapping of point guards. Kings point guard Mike Bibby -- who has an early termination option on his contract that would allow him to become a free agent after this season despite two seasons being left on his deal -- is owed $12.5 million for this season. Including the $18.2 million Iverson will make this season, his deal has three seasons and approximately $59 million remaining.

The Kings would have to add a piece or two to make the deal work, as the players' salaries in a trade must be within 125 percent of each other. They also have five players with expiring contracts that could be attractive to Philadelphia, allowing them to clear up salary cap space for next season: Corliss Williamson, Jason Hart, Vitaly Potapenko, Ronnie Price and Maurice Taylor.

The Kings also have a glut of younger players with promise to offer, from the seemingly untouchable Kevin Martin ($1 million this season) to second-year swingman Francisco García (approximately $1.1 million) and rookie Quincy Douby ($1.2 million).

The interesting subplot would be in the history between Iverson and two of the current Kings players. Former 76ers Kenny Thomas and Salmons were both relieved to leave Philadelphia and have often spoken of the difficulties that come with playing with an offensive star who dominates both the opposition and the ball.

Salmons, in fact, was hired partly on the basis of how well he produced for the 76ers when Iverson wasn't on the floor, with Petrie saying when he signed him that Salmons showed his true potential then.

"It is what it is," Salmons said. "If he ended up here, I'd play with him. I'd welcome him in."

Kings small forward Ron Artest, whose trade demands from Indiana a year ago led to his Sacramento stop, said he was more concerned with the current crop than whether Iverson would work with the team.

"We had a nice little (run) last year. Had a chance to win a lot of games, do a lot of damage, and just need to build on that this year," Artest said.

I love Bibby and damn near all my Kings jerseys are Bibby's but fuck it, I wouldn't mind seein this happen. But I would like to see us send Brad Miller in the deal and get Samuel Dalembert in return, that would be beefy.

AI to the Kings looks good...

from ezekielbearsports:

"Talks will continue tomorrow between the Kings and Sixers.

The Bobcats are no longer in the mix as Iverson has denied a trade. That deal was going to be completed until Iverson refused to report.

The Wolves and Clippers are joining last ditch efforts

Bibby,Garcia,Williamson or Potapenko and a first for Iverson,Ollie, filler is on the table. That is the offer from the 76ers. The Kings brass made the choice to sleep on it.

Other offers, as I said, with the Clipps and Wolves will most likely come in through the night...but...it is up for the Kings to accept or deny, at this moment.

IF the trade is agreed, it may not be completed until Friday depending on filler for the Sixers (as a few players on their roster can not be moved until the 15th)

As of right now, this is the Kings trade to complete or deny. Going into tomorrow, who knows...but it's on the table right now."
