Man Shot to Death Near Pavilion
One man is dead as the result of violence after a concert in the east bay over the weekend. Just after midnight Sunday, police say 25-year-old Donald Ivan Tate Junior was shot and killed at a gas station down the street from the Chronicle Pavilion. A hip-hop concert had just let out, and witnesses say people remained in the area, hanging out in and around their cars. That's when the victim's brother says the two were boxed in by other cars at the gas station. Without any apparent altercation, he says Donald was then shot and killed.
Rowdy Drivers at Caldecott Tunnel
Police officers in the east bay were busy early yesterday, trying to control hundreds of people on the roads believed to be coming from a hip hop concert at the Chronicle Pavilion. Westbound traffic was stopped in the left bore of the Caldecott Tunnel while amateur video caught cars entering from the wrong direction, spinning around and playing loud music, while some got out of their cars to spray graffiti on the walls and watch cars doing stunts. CHP and Oakland police units arrived and managed to disperse the crowd, getting traffic moving again. Police say the same group of reckless drivers then did more stunt driving on Interstate 980 near 18th Street. Once again, a large police presence caused the group to scatter. Police say there were no arrests or accidents.
