And everybody sort of wants that validation that they have a good taste in music, so when you're shitting on their favorite rapper of all people it sort of knocks that.
That's a VERY good point.

To go along with that, people get a voyeuristic, vicarious thrill out of putting themselves in the rapper's shoes. That's why the fans pick up the slang, the style of dress, ideologies and the mannerisms of their favorite rapper. Fans adoption of certain rapper ideologies (along with technology) has contributed to the downfall of the music business imo.

The content in today's mainstream hip hop has come down to these basic points:

"I have a lot of money"
"I can do anything I want because I have a lot of money"
"I can have any woman I want. Why? Because I have a lot of money"
"I'll kill you if you get in the way of me making more money"
"You want to be like me" (because of the first 4 points mentioned)

Living in a capitalistic society, we're conditioned from birth to believe that money is EVERYTHING (power, freedom, happiness, etc...). So to the impressionable type, it's an accomplishment of superhuman proportions to achieve what most of these rappers are talking about they've achieved.

Kids look up to shit that seems like it's out of reach for them. This is where the vicarious thrill comes in to play. You do anything to disrupt that thrill, your hero-worshipper fan will get pissed, lol

i also notice that when someones favorite rapper(hero) gets exposed for snitching or kissing another mc or running away from getting beat up or just doing some gay shit, the fan tends to back that artist up and tries to say something that will help him keep their(artist) street cred.
Agree 100%

Idolizing any rapper is a bad idea imo, but there's nothing wrong with being passionate about the artists you like. Most people, espeically people on this board, listen to music for a good portion of the day. So of course it's going to be important to them.

On the other hand, there's people on here who call you names and *attempt* to attack your personal credibilty when you don't like an artist they like. That's a damn shame, and those people mostly live through those rappers, or what they think those rappers are like.

Some researchers have found that fervent fans become so tied to their teams that they experience hormonal surges and other physiological changes while watching games, much as the athletes do.

The self-esteem of some male and female fans also rises and falls with a game's outcome, with losses affecting their optimism about everything from getting a date to winning at darts, one study showed.
This explains a lot
