I'm not a Nelly fan, but someone brought to my attention this verse:

3rd verse N Dey Say

I used to think that life had a plan for me
Until I realised life had to be planned by me, see that's the key
I only deal with what I can see cause over history, mystery brought us nothin but misery
Man more people done died in the name of the lord
Than in any natural disaster, disease or gangwars
Before guns there was swords and they was killin each other
and what's changed to this day still killin each other
Killin a brother while another mother cries for help
Man! we need to help a brother find themself
Feed em light 1, 2, 3
Hey! that's something every brother should see and that's Fo' Reel,
and that's Fo' Reel, and that's Fo' Reel

I dont think it necessarly means he's an atheist, perhaps Agnostic or maybe even he has his own personal beliefs in a god, but it makes me wonder. Anyone know?

Question... Who gives a fuck if Nelly is an atheist or not?

Not me.
Obviously I DO you fucking idiot or else I wouldn’t have made the thread.

Now, as I mentioned from the start, I don’t like his music, but I am curious being that Atheists in the rap industry are about as rare as you having intercourse with a female.

Don't know about Nelly, and don't care about Nelly, but I've always wondered why pretty much every rapper says they believe in God. Then they go out and make an album about killing people and selling drugs and at the end of it they give shout-outs to God and thank him for making that all possible for them. Kinda two-faced, isn't it? To say that you believe in God, but your actions speaks differently. Is it that in USA it's so common to believe in God that nobody contradicts it and don't think what believing in God really means?

P.S. I really don't care about any god there possible is. I don't spend my time thinking about it. If there is some God somewhere, then there is. If there isn't, then there isn't. Don't matter to me. I just know what there is written in the Bible and it seems that kinda few people are actually following those "instructions". Believing in God is like some kind of a trend for a lot of people.

That’s all I’m saying. I only know of a few; I know at least one of the two members from Dead Prez is Atheist, Esham is Atheist (or at least was), NATAS, I heard “Sticky Fingaz” from ONYX is Atheist, Sage Francis is Agnostic possibly Atheist. I’m sure there is more, but that’s all I know.

“I believe man made god out of ignorance and fear. If god made man, then why the hell would he put us here? I thought he’s supposed to be the all-loving; the same god who let Hitler put the Jews in the ovens” – Dead Prez

“Fuck the bible! Get on your knees and praise my rifle!” – Dead Prez

“I don’t believe in God, so it’s odd, that everything I bust ill shit niggaz scream ‘Oh my God!’” – Esham

“I don’t believe in shit I can’t see; so don’t ask me about G-O-D ‘cuz my religion is reality” – Mastamind

But out of the hundreds and hundreds of artists I've heard, I can count on one hand the number of atheists.

its your existence here within a dimension(designed by the creator)that utilizes the laws of negatives and positives, for with order follows chaos...the word "god" is a complex word similar to the word psyche, for many elements compose and/or empower(now dis-empower) the word itself... I think nasir comprehends where he exist and the spiritual war that is commencing and perpuated by those of the etheric plane...alot of rappers come from a paradoxial existence(shit all of us)...nas and many othe artist who are not glorified by mass media have and will continue to illustrate and express their view of our complex struggle between good an evil...remember god, the creator remembers he birthed you imperfect amid tumult as sheep amid wolves...he understands you are a backslider, but in the end you must slide forward with an understanding of benevolence and humility, for the the essence of child is the only thing that will get ya into heaven...and this you will and/or may not be chosen to innately understand...long live hip hop!

I appreciate your answer, but I'm a little confused...

You mean it is hard to do good, and/or hard to follow the Bible? That evil is always trying to take a hold of us? Is that the evil force that makes some rappers to glorify the violent lifestyle at the same time they are giving praises to God? Because I think it's the free choise they have made. They like to tell others how hard they are plus they are getting paid for that. They are getting paid for glorifying all what is opposite of what the Bible teaches. And some of those rappers are violent in the real life, are using drugs, and hurting the people around them. They might be knowingly breaking all the 10 commandments, and still they say they believe in God. I mean, what's the point in believing in God if you aren't even trying to do as the Bible says?

My theory on this nelly bein an atheist is;

The dude is a shallow ass artist, hes never made anything that makes u think, he was probably pressured by his label to do a "serious song" and he picked up random lines that have been used or said before and put it into one song. the dude aint an atheist or a believer, hes just a shallow ass dude that worships money and bitches that give him head.
