Why does the USA have such fucked up laws regarding Marijuana. I've been reading this book called Reefer Madness that talks about all these different cases such as this guy Larry Jackson who was given a life sentence for having 0.16 of a gram. That's fucked up. And the laws differ from state to state and county to county. In Newyork if your caught with slightly less then an ounce you'd get a 100 dollar fine, but in Louisanna it could lead to a prison sentence of 20 years.

I smoke a lot of weed, I don't ever want to go the States. That shit is fucked up.

In Seattle they don't care. They passed a law saying that weed is their lowest priorty. So if you get caught stealing a car and you have weed on you your fucked. But if you smoking or holding under a quarter then your cool, cops cant do anything.

In Seattle they have Hempfest every year, I always have to work that day but everyone ive talked to said the cops are usally pretty cool about smoking and what not.

I think it should be controlled like alcohol. Smoke all you want but dont drive. It's not going to make me want to smoke none, I already willingly gave it up.

I smoke weed profusely. It is my remedy for just about anything. Here in California they really don't trip as long as they don't suspect you are selling it. I have been busted by police 4-5 times with weed but my record does not show a single one of them. In my expierences the cops just made me smash it on the ground or they just "confiscate" it. One time I got busted with 3 seperate gram bags of dank and the cop believed me when I told him I payed $20 for each one. Pretty much the routine consists of a court apperance, a small fine and at worst some community service. Once it is complete it is erased from your record. That is from my expierences.

The only times I don't like to smoke weed are when I'm going to be at work or I'm going to the gym. Other than that I stay high.

Weed affects some people differently. Some people really trip out, get extremely paranoid and fidgidy, and for people like this I would rather not see them on the road. However, in my honest opinion, alcohol is much worse than marijuana.

the only reason it's illegal is because back when they outlawed liquor, they hired a shit load of "officers" who's specific duty was to make sure no one was gettin alcohol. so when they appealed prohibition, all these guys had nothing to do. so they had to find another drug to outlaw so these guys werent out of work. and since marijuana was a relatively new drug to the states and the only people who used it were foreigners, they decided to outlaw that. so they made a whole bunch of propoganda to make people think its evil.

I think they banned weed because people were realizing the extraordinary capabilities of weed and it rivaled the nylon and lumber business. That's why there was so much anti-marijuana propaganda in the thirties.

it's really not that bad down here at all. down here they do those you CAN get 50 years for pound (not literally but you get what i'm saying) type shit and it never happens. don't get me wrong most of the cops are fucking assholes and would take you to jail for a fucking blunt roach .. but you don't do big time for having weed unless you got bundles of the shit.

There are plenty of reasons it is outlawed and won't become legal anytime soon... a few are because there are too many gov't agencies and private corporations that would loose major funding if we legalized it...

CIA, FBI, ATF, Coast Guard, Task Forces, Prison systems (which are both public and private). Timber/Paper industry (1 acre of hemp equals the output of 4 acres of forrest land), other textiles, Alternative fuel/energy sources, Pharmicudical/Medicinal industry (chronic as the natural drug of choice for the termanilly is, as opposed to expensive lethal perscription drugs), Lobbiest from alchol companies (Coors for example)... The list goes on & on...

IMO its one of natures greatest gift to man...

Until it was outlawed, hemp used to be a mutli funcitional resource for different types of textiles, however as soon as it became illegal, they removed all refer-ences from history books...

They don't want us to know its true powers and secerets, (plus if you smoke it you have a better chance of becoming a liberal)...

In the book i'm reading it does talk about them making it illegal when the mexicans started migrating heavily into the states after the 1910 revolution. This was when cops out of texas were making statements that marijuana was making mexicans have a 'lust for blood' and 'super human strength'. In New Orleans they had a newspaper that associated the drug with african americans, and prostitutes. Then in 1937 it got really bad and a bill was passed to criminilaze the drug all throughout the states - you could get up to 99 years in prison for possesion of marijuana.

And then in the 1960's and 70's when white middle class people started using the drug, they decided to change the laws and made the penalties less harsh for small amounts of marijuana. And then when Ronald Reagan was elected he had some guy Carlton Turner was appointed head of the White House Drug Abuse Policy Office. Turner thought that marijuana was a really dangerous drug and turned people into homosexuals. A bunch of acts were passed which made possesion, trafficking, and cultivation of marijuana get a little harsher again.

it's really not that bad down here at all. down here they do those you CAN get 50 years for pound (not literally but you get what i'm saying) type shit and it never happens.
It does happen, this one guy Mark Young, got a life sentence not for growing marijuana or selling marijuana but simply introducing someone who wanted to buy large quantities of marijuana, to 3 people who grew large quantities of marijuana. They were going to give all of them harsh penalties but Mark Young was the only one to get a life sentence because he was the only one not willing to turn snitch.

You guys keep saying that in California it ain't as bad but what about Ed Rosenthal? The guy is facing 20 years for growing 100 marijuana plants for a San Francisco Medical Marijuana club. That's a helluva a lot of time for just growing a bit of marijuana for some sick people.

In Canada the laws are much much much more relaxed. One time I was stopped by the cops, told to get on the ground with my hands out in front of me and the cop rushed up to search me and asked if i had anything, I said I had some weed and the cop said "weed? Thats good, but do you have anything sharp?". Then they searched me, told me they mistook me for some guy that was breaking into cars in the area, and let me walk off with my weed. I don't think that would of ever happened if I was in the states.

I don't know if anyone is interested, but if so the book I'm reading is called: Reefer Madness: Sex, drugs, and cheap labor in the American black market. It's written by Eric Schlosser, the same guy who wrote that Fast Food Nation book.

It's basically 3 essays put together as a book, one about Marijuana, one about illegal immigrants, and one about the porn industry. I've read the first 2 and they were both pretty good.

I wrote a 10 page paper on this topic for my English 102 class last year....One of the major reasons marijuana is illegal is because this fucking doosh (sp?) named Harry Ansligner or something like that was the head of the Bureau of Narcotics....Someone he was related to, uncle in law or some shit, had a ton of money invested in cotton, lumber, and somethin else can't remember....and weed would have completely fucked off his money....he went to congress and said that like 50% of heroin users smoke marijuana or something....i can look through my paper and get it exact if anyone is interested enough.....

I say legalize it. People should be able to smoke it and grow it. Just not sell it. Peolpe should know themselves well enough to know whether or not to drive, but peolple are stupid shits so that won't happen, but that's ok. The government has way too much control over our daily lives, we're told when to stop, go, turn left or right, what we can and can't use or say or do...Fuck that, I wanna smoke weed, and ANYONE who wants to, should be allowed to as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. It should be regulated, but not by the government, there should be a national association (made up of people who smoke and/or support the cause) so that the feds can't fuck with it....Very far fetched I know, but wouldn't it be nice? lol.....

Yeah Harry Anslinger the commisioner of the FBN (federal bereau of narcotics) said all this shit about weed leading to sex crimes, and murder. He thought judges should lock up Marijuana users and throw away the key.

Something Ironic about Anslinger is that he worked close with the CIA on the MK-ULTRA program that gave LSD to people without them knowing it. One of his agents, ran a bordello and spiked customers drinks with LSD and they would observe the effects it had on them. As well Anslinger admitted in his book The Murderers that he arranged a regular supply of morphine for "one of the most influential members of congress." He didn't say who, but Anslingers biographer believes that it was for Joseph R. McCarthy

Dawg, he had 100 MARIJUANA PLANTS!! That's intent to sell. California isn't bad at all when it comes to weed, but if you have 100 plants, fuhgeddaboutit, mass production right there. With a club card, you can buy weed from a club, you get a permit to grow marijuana for SELF MEDICATION, or you can opt to sell what you grow FOR YOURSELF, back to the club. But, you can't mass produce weed. Who's to say this cat wasn't full of shit? Even if he wasn't, that's intent to distribute. That was stupid of dude for growing that many plants to begin with.

Believe me, I live in California, right in the heart of the Sillicon Valley, and my boy is a club member.

That isn't far fetched, that makes perfect sense. I'm saying the shit will be legal before my generation dies off. I mean, think about it, people our ages will start running for office in 10 or 20 years. How many people in my generation alone smoke bomb, have smoked bomb, or believe it should be legal even if they haven't smoked it? It will be legalized eventually. The ruling generation now, never thought rap music would make it 10 years, and we're approaching 30 now. Slowly, we will take over where our parents and grandparents left off and shit will change to how we want it to be.

So fuckin what if it's intent to sell. The average murderer spends 7 years in jail, and this guy is facing 20 YEARS for selling an herb that never harmed anyone? It's absolutely absurd.

This country is ridiculous...every country that has alcohol (for example) legalized has almost NO TEENAGE DRINKING...itd be the same thing with other drugs but our country is poisoned by its greed.
