i just remember some west artists saying that 08 was gonna be the year for the west.

i think that whenever Dre decides to come out, that will be the year the west will actually make some real noise

The Music Industry is a wrap....PERIOD.
Labels aren't signing fools and giving big advances, if you do have a dope record the most you are gonna get out of it is distribution. You need to be able to keep with the times, which in these days means bite. which any self respecting person ain't gonna do.
If you do blow up, the day your album is released you may sell 70 thousand, but another 500 thousand kids got your album on the internet.....shit's a wrap....why do you think they play the same shit over and over again on the radio, because the major labels find a few acts to push and shut the rest of the shit down, which ensures that they can make money off the few artist they do push, Independent is the only way to eat, and fools ain't eating. Sorry to say but Dr.Dre aint gonna budge anything with Detox, dude is the defenition of a legend, but to these little kids writing there name on their sunglasses he is old news, while we are waiting for him to drop that shit, that was OUR shit when we where younger, but it doesn't mean anything to the label exec's who market to the kids and all that radio rubish is THEIR shit now...Dre most likely won't get the support he should, but he will def sell....but they ain't gonna be playing his shit everyday on every major station, WHICH THEY SHOULD.

you right on the money jp. and in the long run, it will have been a good thing. you know why??? cuz for a minute there, everybody and they mama was a rapper. but the fact that it aint so easy to get the money any more made a lot of wanna be rappers quit. cuz they didnt really love it anyway. of course its still saturated, but not like it was a year or 2 back. now... peep this...

i seen on news the other day that they've figured out how they're going to slow the amount of illegal downloading.

they have 2 different options.

the riaa has teamed up with most major internet service providers in the effort to slow the piracy. they're going to be monitoring bandwith usage on every computer. if it is found that any one person is doing a large amount of downloading (which, im not sure what they consider to be "large"), they are going to send you a message asking you to stop. if you continue, they will lower your bandwith to where it would take you like an hour to download one song. now you got slow ass internet...

other option is, they will begin to charge people after they go over a certain amount of bandwith usage per month. kinda like a cell phone. once you go over your minutes you gotta pay for each minute. now i dont know how they could specifically put those profits in the hands of the correct labels or artists whose music was downloaded... but its a start in deterring illegal downloading. a lot of downloaders are kids using a computer at their moms house. so... they run that bill up thats they ass. next thing is moms is gonna take limewire off that computer and now lil whooptie whop is back in the record store pickin up that solo album from raine cuz he cant download it no more. tellin stories wit the homies about the good ol days when they didnt have to pay for music. shit... some of yall too!! enjoy it while you still can!!!

True....I think if that goes through it should be something that ASCAP or BMI will have there hands in.....they already hit up little no name bars with fees for having karaoke or DJ's that play other peoples music. Yeah the over saturation is just hard for Dope artist because folks to got to sift through so much shit to get to anything valid.....I think that if we as people took it into our own hands and were honest with some of our friends and just told them to actually sit down and listen to there shit...haha..i know everyone on this forum got a homie that spits, and is horrible, but you do the right thing as a friend and support...haha..be honest, tell them to quit rapping, and there is other things that they can do to keep genuine music alive, like produce or start a magazine....but don't even get me started on that....one thing i do notice is that people get so caught up in what they are doing they don't compare there product or material to critically accliamed shit...SUCCESS LEAVES BLUEPRINTS..I personally have not released an album yet because I have yet to record 17 songs I think are the NUTZ, it's coming though...haha...but as far as the west goes with albums, there was some classic shit released this year in my sect of hip hop.....Planet Asia & Muggs, Blu dropped 2 albums, Evidence, Pacific Division, Sick Jacken...all dope releases that would have gotten substantial recognition in a different market...

NO.

Sadly some of the best artist in the West are not signed to a Major which is willing to promote and market them to the masses. The West Coast needs some new blood. Artist such as Ya Boy, Mithcy Slick, Crooked I, Problem, Roccet, and Jay-Rock could help bring the West Coast back but sadly they won't release and album with a Major in 09.

i worked hard in 2008 so i can look better in 2009.

seriously, i have alot of artwork that took me a long ass time in 2008 to do but its only gonna be seen in 2009. it dosent just all the sudden pop up because its 2009 there was blood sweat and tears involved from the years before to create something that means somethin'..so we all control our destiny of when to drop something, some are better at that than others

so technically, no...if a person was into their craft they obviously have been working at it in 2008 and so on...whoevers gonna drop is whoevers gonna drop next year..you never know what the future holds and where things go, san diego wise

i have a few things im working on...so...i have faith...
the good thing about being on this website is i understand everyones perspective on things and can intergrate that into whatever i do.

people are gonna have to step they shit up..basically

u can be a simple rapper but u best be the best simple rapper..
its so easy to be yourself and be liked for that
even nerds andsquares are likeable to some degree

You have unity as last on the list, yet every rapper you named is from LA. You think LA can bring the West back on it's own? Sorry my man but it's not going down like that. Unity is Bay and LA, and everything in between. ONE West yall we gotta get like the South and fuck with all our artists and stop dividing shit by regions if we ever plant to get back to prominence.

in a different market...
thats what most of this confusion is about. we've been struggling for so long that we've come to doubt ourselves. when, in reality, they can take ANYBODY and make them a star with the right promotion behind them. so its impossible that they (the major labels that be) cant find more new artists from the westcoast.

ive said this before and i still believe this....

niggaz in the south are more willing to take fucked up deals. niggaz on the west and east coast seem to be a bit more intelligent and possibly more aggressive in negotiations. i think THAT is the reason why the game has remained in the south for so long, and why they are making and effort to keep it there. its just easy money.

i think when people sign major deals, they expect to be millionaires. Whats wrong with rappin for an OK salary like maybe 40 or 50K a year? Does somebody have to pay u half a mil or more to do something u love doing? just something i was thinkin about

never mind. i dont think any1 loves music that much right?

50K =

25000 - icy chain
10000 - lease the benz
5000 - new clothes
5000 - got drunk one night and bought out the bar
4000 - weed
648 - made it rain
352 - baby mama

next album flops

no more money

pawn icy chain for 1200

buy a qp of chronic

its the promo era. All promotion no product. New artists promise an album then come out with 6 mixtapes with no albums, then they come out with a group who also does the same thing. then they start beefin. then the groups split and bring even more people that try to rap
