Everyone bumps PAC & SNOOP so that wouldn't convince me. I thought you would say JAY Z or JA RULE or EVE or someone who's on the radio all the time.

My 4 cents. LA as a whole don't fuc with underground shit. Big homey Suave I feel you, but to promote in LA it's going to take more than just some posters and flyers. LA is the hardest market to crac if you're not on a major. San Diego bumps a lot of Bay shit, and has quite a few indie labels, like a mini Bay movement goin' out here. I know folks in LA would love my shit if they hear it. But in order for them to hear it, it has to be in the store, in order for it to be in the store, the store has to order it, and for them to order it you have to have a buzz, and to get a buzz in LA you have to be mass marketed like airplay on the Beat and 106, BET commercials and videos. LA is too big for word of mouth to go all around the city for a new artist most of LA has never heard of. It's a few niggaz that got my shit in LA (and that's cuz niggaz I was in the pen with got love for a nigga, and spread the word to their homies), but I'm not really trippin' off LA cuz I don't have a big enough budget to get on the Beat and 106. And just BET commercials in LA cost more than a commercial in San Diego, just because it's LA.
I know a gang of people from LA. I have some real close homies from LA. And I've been to LA a million times, and I doubt very seriously if any underground artist is gettin' bumped A LOT in LA unless they've been out for years (like Bo), and are out there all the time. From what I've seen LA don't really bump any underground artist. You gotta realize MC Eiht, Kam, Bad Azz, Suga Free, WC, Ras Kass and some more niggaz, even if they're considered underground, are ALL still on a major. People say LA supports their rappers on the radio, but all of the LA rappers on the radio are on major labels, and the Bay rappers (except e-40) are on indies, that's one of the reasons kmel don't play bay shit, and it looks like LA supports their rappers, but people forget LA rappers are mostly all on major labels. And the stores out there, the VIP's, Slauson, Compton swap meet etc are not ordering an indie's shit unless you got a major buzz, and you really can't get that without the Beat or 106, or BET or billboard and bus ads. And some of ya'll are right, most of LA either bumps mainstream, or extreme underground hip hop bacpac shit. Also, it's not even that many LA indie labels. I haven't heard of any besides my folks Suave's label and Brian S' label. Also, I think a lot of rappers out there want the fame so bad that they don't want to be independent. They want to be on the Beat, and videos and shit from the start of their career. Instead of startin' out gritin' and grindin' independently. Bottom line, LA is the hardest market to crac for a West Coast artist on an indi, and that's one of the main reasons the Bay (San Diego and Sac) ain't gettin' played a lot in LA.

@LIL C.S.

I feel you folks, and you're Absolutely correct. But we know with a budget for L.A., you can sell, Independently alone approxiamately 20-30,000 units. Folks think that radio is the only outlet for the L.A. market, but if the labels take time out to do radio drops you would have a better chance of getting your single played on that particular station. L.A. Dj's love niggaz hollering there names in a drop, some type of ego trip these D.J's have.
LiL C.S. I know folks that won't hit up L.A. because they don't wanna get caught in certain hoods, and they don't wanna pay a L.A. street team, so they by-pass L.A. and go straight to Dago, Arizona, and then hit the MidWest.

It's just taking time and posting in that city. You really don't have to spend alot of money in L.A. if you do it right. What people don't understand, why hit Compton or Long Beach when niggaz ain't even buying your product? I'd rather hit Diamond Bar, Orange county, Upland, You know the white & Asian communities, they spend cheese, 75% of others buy unrban music, are people don't buy records. You can go in any urban barber shop and see our own peolple selling cd's bootleg. Go into a super cuts, they don't sell bootleg cd's. So the bottom line is the marketing Stradegy has to change, we have to service the non-urban consumers, they will come, that's why Lynch has a big White, Asian, and Hispanic market. Fuck the homies and the hood, yo homie won't even shoot a nigga a package or a kite if you was locked up in the pen, but a fan would, alittle white kid that love's your music will support you before your own homie. So the bottom line is to change your marketing stradegy an caiter to others than your own folks. that's the bottom line.
Demographics is a muthafucca, labels don't even look at that, they just put out records. Do some home work, all labels reading this fourm, get on your computer and find out how many people are in the cities your promoting in.
In California (1) Hispanic (2) White (3) Blacks (4) others, meaning Aisians, Indians, Arabic etc... But the one with the money is others!!!!!, You feel me? so I would promote my shit in the Hispanic market and others, Our folks will tag along. "LYNCH DID IT" that's why he would make his first million in 2003. SORRY ABOUT THE BOOK!!!
If you need marketing from the promo company that service other than the hood, get back at me "On Lock Promotions & Marketing". You get promotions/Publicist/and radio promotions. HOLLA!!!! LiL C.S. do yo thang my nig

@ninaonina,

Real real real spit my nig. Man I'm feelin' you to the fullest on that Diamond Bar, Orange County, Upland white/mexican/asian communities shit. Those are the real people that will support. Man I know this 100% homey. When we go out mashin' (sellin' out the trunk) 95% of the time we don't even approach blacs, cuz a lot of niggaz got that instant hatred if they haven't heard about you. That's why we hit up all white/mexican/asian/even middle eastern hip hop dressing people, and that's about 90% of our sells. I mean we will literally purposely walk by certain blacs and not even mention the cd to them, cuz we know the hate that's going to come. But let me say this, it's a lot of blacs that have my shit, but most of them bought it out the store (the non soundscan swap meets at that) only after hearing about it. You know Dago is mostly bloods, so every nigga that ain't military (all of them ONLY bump South and some East Coast music) or ain't bloods have my shit out here, but I have a big mexican and white fan base out here! For real! A lot of Dago rappers only focus on Southeast (the ghetto part), but I got some of southeast (the non bloods, but some damus bump me), and ALL of the rest of Dago, from the white to the asian to the mexican areas. Real Speech! Man I feel what you're sayin' 144% my nig. I gotta get up there to them areas you speakin' on instead of going to South Central, Long Beach and Compton. You just inspired me to get up there and mash. I'm going to map out certain areas up there now, and get up there. You know any of the main malls in the areas you named (Orange County, Diamond Bar etc). As far as radio drops, I know a person would have to have the plug on that to get one on the radio. Holla bac though homey. 1

You guys are both correct. I work with a majority black crowd, a lot of them from Compton, Watts, Long Beach, etc. and some of them are gang members. But when I try to tell them about Northern Cali artists or underground artists in general (I use that term to mean anyone not on the radio) they won't even hear me out. All they say is "If they are so tight, how come they are not on the radio?" I try to explain that most underground artists are the ones that don't sell out just for the money. It's like talking to children. I keep the names in their ears, but it don't do much.

No offense, but it's a well known fact..

Blacks usually know the least about rap. If it ain't on the radio, most of 'em don't know what it is. At least as LA and my experiences goes..

Cater to who buys your shit. It's not about race. It's about food on your table..
