Limit the size to 100K like Evil said, and make sure to only post your sig once on a thread if you are using an animated sig. My computer at home can handle them but the slow one's at school have a reall hard time with em.
Limit the sig size. Its not the animated gifs really that kill shit its the people that have like 2 200k pictures and shit. Limit it to 100k or so for a sig period.
