Uh......OK. Apparently you guys don't know who I am.......but it's all good. I've produced about 8 albums........I'm well aware of the difference between ACTUAL tracks and "channels" if you want to get technical about it.

Yeah what I meant was 16 "channels".....with at least 4 busses. I have a Mackie SR 24x4 right now.

I don't need no stupid fuckin' VS1680 or 880......that shit is garbage. I need a digital mixer that I can plug my different sound modules into and run digitally through SPDIF into my Layla soundcard for maximum sound performance.

I'm talkin' about shit like this.......

My point was that I was asking about a digital mixer and not a digital multi-track recorder with a mixer built into it. It's all good bro......I know you were just trying to be helpful......but I'm a little past the "studio in a box" stage.

Unfortunately my screen name label doesn't allow enough room for my other job titles which are producer and beatoligist. If you have a few extra minutes......you can hit any of the first 5 links in my signature and check out some of my work. I recorded and mixed all of the albums that I've released (through my label) here in Seattle......and did about 90% of the beats as well. I also have about 4 albums worth of material that hasn't been released yet.....and various production features on other projects that you will be hearing more about soon.

The Mackie factory is about 10 minutes from my house.....and you just reminded me that I know people that work there and can get me DISCOUNTS! But I don't think they have any small digital mixers......all they have is the D8B...right? That shit is about $8-9,000 new.......but I was told I can get one for about $4,000 from the factory. I wish I had money like that........:(

with a digital mixer you are going to pay some money. i guess the reason you want one is so you can recall snapshots and scenes and do the automation. the roland vm7200 costs like 3 grand. if im not mistaking its 48 channels. i could be wrong. the mackie d8b is going to cost you $7-10 grand. the new sony mixer is going to cost you 20 grand.

beringher makes a new digital mixer (i dont endorse the products they make). and tascam has SEVERAL digital mixers out right now (not multitrack recorders).

I don't need no stupid fuckin' VS1680 or 880.......that shit is garbage.
well i use a vs880ex and a mackie 24-4. the vs units have outsold all of the hard disc recorders in its price range. by the way teddy riley doesnt think his 1680 is stupid. if you knew how many MAINSTREAM artist used it for pre production work i dont you would have said that.

but I'm a little past the "studio in a box" stage.
well i use mine like an "adat". i sync it to whatever im using and i multitrack to it. i would rather multitrack to a vs any day over multitracking to adats. no sync issues,no tapes breaking,no external media......now im NOT taking away from adats because they are DEDICATED recorders. the vs has BELLS AND WHISTLES so its not really fair to compare the two in some aspects. the money and rav ep was tracked on adats. they recently did two songs on the vs. the vs sounded WAY better than the adats(room acoustics and the fact that i was the one who tracked it plays a big factor).

now what do i do with my tracks that i have recorded on my GARBAGE vs unit? well i load them into pro tools system that has 24 ins/outs. after that we run the tracks to one of these

http://www.solid-state-logic.com/Profile/hist.htm

an sl4000e and it will be mixed on a neve (cant remember which model).

by the way i have 7 albums worth of UNRELEASED material. 3 albums are being recorded here--->http://www.prairiesun.com/.

we have already done our guitar over dubs and i just did 5 hours yesterday (vocals). today i will do another 5 for vocals. friday i will do another 5. the following thursday i will do another 5 for vocals. after that its time to mix (it wont take long because i have studied the music and nothing is BROKE).

so when you say something is garbage d sane make sure you have proof. one mans junk is another mans treasure and if you want to compare the QUALITY of the FINISHED material at the end of the day (my finished album compared to one of your finished albums) we can do it.

I WILL WIN HANDS DOWN.

^^^^ its based on EXPERIENCE with the products they make. i dont like the fx units they have. i dont like the compressors. i DONT like the 24 channel mixer unit. remember this is based on EXPERIENCE not what i HEARD or READ from a book. hands on use of the product.

the "money and rav" ep was tracked through a 24 or 32 channel mixer unit and i HATED the sound they gave me at the end of the day. for some it may be the BEST product they have ever heard. to me thats not the case.

i would choose a mackie over a behringer anyday. i would choose a ghost over a mackie and i would choose an ssl or neve over a ghost......

just my preference and experience.

Behringer = Mackie rip-off. I've never heard anybody say anything good about them.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I've been checkin' out the Yamaha's and Tascams......they both have units that are appealing.

@Heresy......I'm glad you like your Roland VS880ex so much.......but you and I both know that they aren't as flexible as a regular hard disk system. I'll take my Cubase ANY DAY over one of those machines.......simply for the wave editing abilities and plug-ins......not to mention sequencing and all that other shit. PLUS........16 tracks ain't enough for me......I regularly use 25-30 tracks. + You have to transfer ALL of your shit to some sort of storage device because of the small amount of onboard hd space they give you. And I could care less what Teddy Riley uses.......when was the last time that guy had a hit? Makes you wonder, huh?

VS machines are cool for people that are just startin' out or semi-serious and are lookin' to save money. Sure......having a multi-track recorder, digital mixer and efx all in one box is convenient and cheaper than buying all the individual pieces.......but that don't make it the shit. I've played with the 1680 on several occasions.......I wasn't impressed.

ADAT's are on their way out too......

But it all boils down to preference......if you prefer that machine......good for you! I can't fuck with it. That shit is garbage to me.......which means it's useless. Now if I had to choose between NOTHING and a VS880 or 1680......of course I'm gonna walk away with a "studio in a box." But I don't need to worry about that........

And Heresy.......while YOU'RE in the studio.......I'M in the trunk. So cut the crap.......you sound like you have some haterous undertones in your commentary. Don't talk about it......be about it. I DOES THIS!!!!

ADAT's have been wack for a long time now in my opinion. They had their day when the technology was cool & hip and it was fun to control a rack of them with a BRC but those days are long gone. ADAT = dinosaur. Wack compared to the alternatives now available at a lesser cost. The fact that Alesis went bankrupt last year isn't exactly helping keep the relic alive either.

Come to think of it, there's a hell of a lot of people converting their ADAT tapes to Pro-Tools sessions... That would be some easy scratch man, maybe I should start offering that service.

NOOOOO DOUGH!!!!!!! ZERO!!!!!!!!!

no i dont transfer it to any storage device. well if yuo call a cd a storage device but i dont HAVE to go that route. i can go directly out. i dont think its supposed to be as flexible as cubase. like i said i simply use my machine as an "adat" or recorder. i dont use it for on board fx (although a lot of them do sound good). i dont mix down to it. simply use it to track all my material. nothing more nothing less. i would take PRO TOOLS any day over CUBASE.
And I could care less what Teddy Riley uses.......when was the last time that guy had a hit? Makes you wonder, huh?
when was the last time YOU had a platinum record? makes you wonder, huh?

well actually i feel that way about anything LESS than a neve or ssl console. which is why my *FIRST* project is being tracked and mixed on the BEST consoles. like i said i use it as a recorder. vs machines are cool for people just starting out???????? LMAO!!!!! i guess that explains why i saw OUTKAST on mtv cribs using a vs machine..........also you say you played with it on several occassions.....must have been recently because a while back i remember you asking me about the quality of the converters etc etc etc.......

now back to your other comment. "vs machines are cool for people just starting out or are semi serious"????
go to www.vsplanet.com and ask them to post pics of the studios they have. ask them are they JUST STARTING OUT........MANY people on that site have sold UNITS,RECORDED FOR 20 PLUS YEARS ETC ETC ETC......so once again when you make a statement make sure you know what you are talking about.

But it all boils down to preference......if you prefer that machine......good for you! I can't fuck with it. That shit is garbage to me.......which means it's useless. Now if I had to choose between NOTHING and a VS880 or 1680......of course I'm gonna walk away with a "studio in a box." But I don't need to worry about that........
either you cant comprehend what i am saying or ...well whatever. anyway once again. i use mine as a RECORDER. nothing MORE nothing LESS. now when you REALLY look at it what is cubase? A STUDIO IN A BOX.

And Heresy.......while YOU'RE in the studio.......I'M in the trunk. So cut the crap.......you sound like you have some haterous undertones in your commentary. Don't talk about it......be about it. I DOES THIS!!!!
damn right im in the studio and if you THINK that someone is HATING you are WRONG. I HAVE NO REASON TO HATE YOU? WHAT YOU HAVE I HAVE OR CAN GET BY SIMPLY GOING TO
BANK OF AMERICA. WHAT YOU HAVE I DONT *WANT*. I HAVE NO REASON TO HATE YOU. YOU CAN RELEASE 4000000 ALBUMS GO 89 TIMES PLATINUM. MORE POWER TO YOU AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU. ONLY THING IM BASICALLY SAYING TO YOU IS BEFORE YOU TALK MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. A LOT OF PEOPLE CANT GRASP THAT IN THIS FORUM......YOU INCLUDED.

I SIMPLY THROUGH A CHALLENGE OUT TO YOU. THE CHALLENGE STILL STANDS. NOW IF YOU WANT TO CHECK SALES 6 MONTHS AFTER I RELEASE MY ALBUM WE CAN DO THAT. WE ARE IN COMPETETION. SO HEY WHY NOT MAKE THE MOST OF IT?????? I SPOKE DIRECTLY TO YOU AND SAID YOUR NAME. HOW YOU TAKE IT IS HOW YOU TAKE IT. YOU TAKE IT AS HATE THATS YOU. TAKE IT AS FUNK THATS YOU. YOU TAKE IT ON A MUSIC LEVEL AS COMPETETION THATS YOU. YOU TAKE IT TO THE STREETS THAT YOU. LIVE AND DIRECT NO SUGAR COATING,WORD SMITHING,HIDDEN AGENDAS OR "UNDERTONES".

YES YOU ARE IN THE TRUNK THATS COOL. I HEAR PEOPLE IN VALLEJO DRIVING BY PLAYING UNDERGROUND STUFF MY BROTHER OR MYSELF DID YEARS AGO. SO YES IM IN THE STUDIO BANGING OUT TRACKS. WHATS WRONG WITH THAT? YOU ACT LIKE YOU ACCOMPLISHED A GREAT DEAL. YOU PUT OUT ALBUMS I AM WORKING ON ALBUMS. YOU WENT TO SCHOOL FOR MUSIC I DIDNT. I DONT SEE ANY REASON BEHIND YOU TELLING ME YOU ARE IN THE TRUNK...REALLY I DONT. HOW EASY IS IT TO GET INTO A STUDIO AND RECORD A CD,SIGN SOME STUPID DEAL AND BE "IN THE TRUNK"????????????? NOW IF YOU SAID YOU WENT PLATINUM OR HAVE WORKED WITH PLATINUM PRODUCING ENGINEERS I WOULD CONSIDER IT.........

SO WHY YOU MAKE A FEEBLE ATTEMPT TO CLOWN TAKE A LOOK AT THE PIC..........NOW IM GOIN ON RECORD TO SAY ANYTHING LESS THAN PRO TOOLS AND A NEVE AND SSL IS INFEREIOR AND GARBAGE. HOW ABOUT THAT????????

Heresy......since we're bringin' up "past comments" n all......I remember you saying not too long ago......"seems like you're the man to beat around here." If you want to make my presence and talent into a competition.......be my guest. I gives a fuck. I do what I does and am highly respected by many people for it.

I don't care what YOU say......or what 10 zillion other people say about the VS recorders.....they're crap. And shut the hell up with all that bullshit about "Outkast has one.....".....yeah in their PRE-PRODUCTION STUDIO!!!!!!!! You act like they're making records off that shit....lol. You should have paid better attention when you were watching MTV's Cribs.

We can argue till we have raw finger tips.....that's my opinion. Don't try to rationalize your opinion with has beens like Teddy Riley......he was cool back in the day......I grew up on that shit.....but he ain't shit to me now.....so fuck him. He had his 15 minutes.

And for your information......bragging about where you're recording is futile.....it doesn't impress me......maybe the 14 year olds are impressed....but not me. Now if YOU owned that shit......I would be impressed. You seem to forget that I live in Seattle......the second largest music mecca on the West Coast. I could spend all night talking about the "million $ studio's" around here that I've been in.......but who cares? With consoles bigger than the one you're sittin' at in your cute little picture......I bet you jack off to that shit, huh?

One last thing........I've been making beats and recording for 12 years......I am 99% self taught. I went to college in 1996 for music & business (mainly to get my probation officer off my back).......but I already knew it all. And actually was offered a job teaching a Hip-Hop drum programming course (not bad for some kid off the street, eh?). I'm not an idiot......nor am I just some guy that decided to do this yesterday. I don't know it ALL.....but I know alot. But most importantly.......I make music that people like.......do YOU?

Good luck with your album......hopefully you'll recoup.

I HAVE EDITED THIS POST BECAUSE I KNOW IF I HAD LEFT IT UP A HEATED BATTLE WOULD HAVE TAKE PLACE.

NOW I WILL SAY DSANE I AM RECORDING AT THESE "MILLION DOLLAR" SPOTS. FROM SOUND FARM TO PRAIRIE SUN. NOW IF *YOU* WANT TO CHECK *QUALITY* OF THE FINISHED PRODUCT WE CAN DO THAT. IF YOU WANT TO CHECK THE UNITS SOLD 6 MONTHS AFTER I DROP MY WORK WE CAN DO THAT. IF NOT LOOK INTO AN 02R OR A TASCAM MIXER.

LIKE I SAID I WENT THROUGH AND CHANGED THIS POST. IF I NEED TO POST THE REAL ONE DUE TO YOU BEING DISRESPECTFUL D-SANE I WILL. NOW HANDLE YOUR BUSINESS AND WORRY ABOUT YOURS.

I DONT HAVE TO RHYME,PRODUCE,MAKE BEATS OR DO MUSIC TO MAKE UP FOR UNEMPLOYMENT. IF YOU WERE THINKING THAT I WILL SIGN OVER 100% PUBLISHING TO YOU AND LET YOU HAVE 100% SALES OF THIS ALBUM. ONLY THING I ASK YOU TO DO IS PUSH AT LEAST 5,000 UNITS OF IT. IM NOT TRIPPIN ON RECOUPING *ANYTHING*. IM SPENDING *MY* MONEY. NOT BORROWED MONEY. MY MONEY. NOT MONEY THAT RECOUPED BUT LOOT I ALREADY HAD.

3 ALBUMS WITH EACH NEEDING 50-65 HOURS WORTH OF WORK. MULTIPLY THAT BY $65 AN HOUR AND DONT EVEN FACTOR IN REEL COSTS. IF I WANTED I COULD HAVE PUT THAT MONEY INTO *MY* STUDIO.........KEEP THAT IN MIND.

:h:

PS AND I DONT HAVE TO SLANG MY.........NAW........KEEP THE NUMBER $2.50 IN YOUR HEAD.
