Wasn't it Esham's way of replicating black-face but reversing it? ICP was directly influenced by his painting of his face, but Twiztid did the same style exactly when they fled from HOK.
And producer Matic Lee painted his face for the cover of his album ala Dead Prez.

Homey Don't Play is the second extended play by Esham A. Smith, released in 1991. According to Insane Clown Posse member Joseph Bruce, the EP's cover, which depicted Esham wearing clown paint, inspired the group's use of face paint in their act.
I thought Twiztid/HOK came after ICP. I never followed their music, well, I did like some shit by HOK I take that back.
I was into ICP for a while. Met them both, without face paint. I've had acquaintances who are personal friends of theirs. And just like the other two white rappers from Detroit (Eminem and Kid Rock) they were influenced by Esham.
Talent wise, ICP dont really have it. HOWEVER, those Twiztid guys got flows.
^this is a good song for anyone who likes to blaze.
but ICP got it right. While its not most any 'typical' hip hop fans type of music, ICP are set for life off their INDEPENDENT bread.
y'all can also hate on them cuz they've collaborated with Three 6 Mafia and Bone Thugs, and your favorite rappers haven't.
