I would eliminate the need to eat.

Most answers offered to this post like "stupidity," "war," "netbanging" aren't really needs.

Needs are breathing, eating, sleeping, fucking, etc.

I would eliminate the need.......THE NEED FOR SPEED!
That had me rollin'!!!!

I'd probably remove the need for greed, in hopes that it would spawn more appreciation. I find it that hate and fear wouldn't drive as many wars as greed would. Hate and fear are benificial in certain ways, prejudged hate and imposed fear is wrong, but in the right context it becomes a mechanism for survival.

If you hate somebody, you probably have due reason - now you will be weary of an interaction with this person in the future. If you fear something, you will be prepared for situations you wouldnt' without fear.

I beg to differ, EVERYTHING on this planet is a need. Without stupidity, there would be no intelligence, so what does that mean for the world? Without hatred, there's no love, without war there is no peace. So yes, TOKZTLI, those are all needs, because without all of that stuff, there would be NOTHING!! No bad=No good...and I can go on and on about this forever.

"Good" and "bad" are just words. Without either of those words the action would still take place. A friend of yours who dies might be "bad" to you, but to a funeral home director who needs to pay rent, it might be "good." To say that if you took away hatred you wouldn't have love is rediculous. If you took away hate right now, you think that people would forget how to love? Why, because they don't have a yard stick of hate to measure their love against anymore? I don't see it. You're talking linguistics and perception.

It's A LOT deeper than that man...and most people will NEVER understand it, but I do. I guess my mind runs too deep for people, and that's why nobody understands me.
Absolutely Sydal...you're miles ahead of your time. People will look back and see you as the Ghandi, the Ayn Rand, and the Einstein of this board all in one. It's just a bit much for our pedestrian minds to handle at this point.

I see what you were getting at, but i tend to agree with L-Mac.

If you smile, you gonna smile no matter what....just because one man is smiling doesn't mean the other has to be frowning.

Happiness begets happiness....sadness begets sadness....there is no symbiosis, unless you live in a South Park mindstate

The way I look at it is this: do I "need" to hate, do I "need" to peace, do I "need" to envy, do I "need" to speed, some of this stuff doesnt even make sense and my personal answer to all of it is No. The only thing i "need" to do is breath, eat, drink, and some would say pay taxes. Thats what I base my answer on, but I respect what you have to say. I think you are getting to a more existential question than the original one that began this thread.

Some of these answers are leaning more towards things we simply just don't like, or don't want to tolerate. Hate is not a human need, but an emotion. We can control our emotions as we please.. So if you don't want hate, quit hatin' then. However, sleep, hunger, or breathing are human needs, things we need to survive. I personally would agree with sleep also. It is definitely the most time consuming "activity" that we humans need to do in order to get along with our lives, eventhough it is unconscious, quite the irony...
Side Note: I did see an episode on Ripley's where this guy from South America had a biological disfunction that would not allow him to sleep. He basically never got tired and would simply roam the streets wide awake. By the time the episode aired, he had this "illness" for 13 years. However, the narrator said that eventhough his body chemistry would not allow him to sleep, his body would eventually "wear" out and cause him to die of exhaustion.

eliminate sleep? no way. "Sleep is where im a Viking" -Ralph

It's intresting to think critically about human needs and how it animates the world. Also how if these needs are elimnated, the world would be crippled, not that we aren't already.

Fucking excellent quote.

Some other amazing Ralph quotes:

Me fail English? That's unpossible!

Ms. Hoover, I glued my head to my shoulder.

That's where I saw the Leprechaun. He tells me to burn things!

Bushes are nice because they don't have pricklies. Unless they do. This one did. Ouch.
