If Ren left N.W.A. instead of Cube do u think he would of gotten the commercial success that Cube received(St. Ides commercials, movies etc.)? I think he would of cuz he waz just az talented on the mic & when u look @ both of their work , Ren's music catologue iz just az impressive az Cubes IMO. Cube waz on fire when he left N.W.A. & waz in the right place @ the right time. I think Rens lyrical ability could match Cubes. He had the look, charisma & mic skillz just like Cube back then & I think when it comez down 2 it, I think it could of went either way no matter who would of left the group out of Cube & Ren.

So, why sir, did he barely make a living for himself when he went solo?

Where is Ren's Boyz n Tha Hood?

Why then, did he not write many of the hits for Straight Outta Compton, as Ice Cube did?

I have seen you drop some good insight on these here boards in the past, but this is far from one of those times. Saying his music catalogue is just as impressive as Cubes is damn near close to insane, but I understand, it's simply your opinion.

MC Ren wouldn't have had commercial success......Ice Cube's delivery is what set him apart from everyone in NWA (with the exception of Eazy, but the man didn't write) had Ren stepped first, he might have had a gold album, maybe, but nothing near what Cube has done.

He would of been worse off then he is now. I'm a fan of him personally, he just never had the mainstream appeal that Cube has. As far as solo albums go, I don't think he has anything close to being on par with Death Certificate, The Predator, or Amerikkka's Most Wanted.

I hear what y'all saying but Ren did write a lot of N.W.A.'s material along with D.O.C. Cube getz way too much credit az far az the writing. Niggaz forget that Cube went 2 AZ 2 go 2 skool & Ren waz doing the writing. Cubes earlier work waz good But hiz latest project IMO iz not all that great & War & Peace waz some str8 bullshit. IMO hiz last solid solo waz Leathal Injection. Ren had just az much fire. Cube waz already tight when he left N.W.A. but that extra fury came just cuz of the fact he had a lot of pressue & plenty 2 prove when he went solo.

Nobody forgot that Cube went to school for a year in 1987, when NWA wasn't even formed yet. Beef up on your facts.

If its weed you're smoking, I need some, hook it up.

I don't believe you actually know what you're talking about. I said Cube went to school for 1 year, came back and wrote the majority of Straight Outta Compton.

Read this link: History of NWA

and this link: Ice Cube, where it says this...

Early years
The son of UCLA employees, Hosea and Doris Jackson, O'Shea was raised in South Central Los Angeles. At 16, he developed an interest in hip hop music, and began writing raps while attending school at William Howard Taft High School. He attended the University of Phoenix in the fall of 1987, and studied Architectural Drafting. Along with friend, Sir Jinx, Cube formed the group C.I.A., and they performed at parties hosted by then-DJ and World Class Wreckin Cru member, Dr. Dre.

N.W.A. era
He and Dre eventually made a mixtape called My Posse, which was released in 1987, with Cube rapping and Dre producing[3]. After a brief stint in a group called HBO, Cube showed his friend, a then-drug dealer named Eazy-E, a song Cube had written called "Boyz-N-The-Hood." Cube wanted Eazy to perform the song; initially, Eazy refused, as he had no intent to become a rapper. Eventually, he caved and recorded the song, which wound up on the album N.W.A. and the Posse--the first release from N.W.A..

By this point Cube was a full-time member of the group along with The D.O.C. and (to a lesser extent) MC Ren, he wrote Dr. Dre and Eazy-E's rhymes for the group's landmark album, Straight Outta Compton, released in 1989.
...and then get back to me. Oh and I guess you could get your facts straight about Ren with a link like thisMc Ren

He contributed hard-hitting vocals on the Straight Outta Compton (1988) album and soon found himself a much more valuable member of the group after Ice Cube departed in 1989.
Besides, even if you have some of your facts straight, nobody with a sane mind up in this motherfucker believes your opinion is worth a shit. Have you read the other responses?

Yeah, you ain't smoking no weed, so I don't want any.

OK smart guy........N.W.A. waz already formed . Streight Outta Compton hadn't dropped yet but the group waz formed. If u remember the N.W.A. & The Posse album(which came before Streight Outta Compton) & Eazy Duz It(which also came before (Streight Outta Compton) then u wouldn't of went thru so much trouble & still be wrong. Streight Outta Compton waz not out yet but the group waz formed & also included Arabian Prince. Thiz iz factual info that I've alwayz known & not some shit I had 2 dig up & still be wrong like yourself..

For those that dissagree with me but still kept it respectable thatz fine. I respect your opinionz. Otherz who are being sarcastic 4 no reason, fuck u.

Peep it, homegirl. YOU HAVE PROVEN NOTHING. You stated there was a time when Cube was gone and Ren did the writing. I said Cube was gone for a year in 1987 and still came back to do a majority of the writing. I was initially going on a gut feeling that you were full of shit on that, so I looked it up. It took all of 5 minutes, not nearly hard work, like making FACTUAL statements are for you. If you can refute any of the info on those links WITH DATES, AND LINKS to prove it, then do so. Otherwise, you are clearly absent fucking minded and you should digress.

I was a smart ass, and if I hurt your feelings, then man up and shatap. Only reason I got smart is because you are saying some ridiculous ass, I-just-hit some-dodo-with-a-topper-now-let-me-ramble-my-stupid-fucking-thoughts on the SoCal board type shit. Stand down, tiny.

More info that this nimrod knows not what he speaks of, and an answer to your question Stomper. Bio on the DOC (Link) says:

He was recruited as Ice Cube's replacement as a writer when Ice Cube briefly left the group to attend an architecture course in Arizona (MC Ren was recruited as Ice Cube's replacement vocalist). When Ice Cube returned, the group remained impressed enough with The D.O.C.'s work to keep him on board. It was the friendly competition between Ice Cube and The D.O.C. that elevated N.W.A.'s lyrics to new levels of sophistication.
Oh, so it was the DOC who was to be Cube's repacement for lyrics and Ren for the voice, so...???

To answer Stomper:
The D.O.C. also wrote many lyrics and appeared on skits for NWA. The D.O.C. is reported to have written most of NWA's second album Efil4zaggin. If one listens to the metre of the lyrics one can hear the D.O.C. writing in most of the songs. The other writer for the album was MC Ren.
