would just like to throw one of my favorite bands out there for you guys to check out.

eluveitie

they are pagan-celtic-folk-melodic death metal

awesome erray of instruments in this band, everything from bag pipes, violins, flutes, hurdy gurdys...real crazy mix of shit.

dont real have much material to offer, most of what i have of theirs is on albums.

i guess this can give you a taste though

You might like Korpiklaani if you like Eluveite. They've got accordions, flutes, fiddles, whistles, and all that good stuff. It's more fun, "let's get drunk" music than Eluveite though.
already a fan,not many finnish bands i dont listen to or at least know of

"beer metal" at its finest,haha

i see your korpiklaani and raise you a finntroll.

ever heard of them? they are along the same lines. folk/death

new album drops next week muthafuckaaaaasss

i know this is going to sound weird coming from me,but i hope there are more female lead vocals this time. the couple songs she lead on last album were sick, even more evil sounding than screaming. her singing in her native language over some crazy ass acoustic shit was dope as fuck. would like to hear more of that.

one more thing i have realized more and more...violins are the shit. no matter the genre, rock, metal, rap,r&b,whatever. violin makes it happen

haha Finntroll rules. They're actually the band that got me into folk/viking metal. Their keyboardist is founder/guitarist/keyboardist/accordion/flute/whistle/harmonium/other weird instrument player of Moonsorrow.

I really like Finntroll's last album, but I think Nattfod is my favorite.

Do you like Thyrfing?

p.s. about 'beer metal' ...Korpiklaani is the only band that's encouraged me to start drinking beer at 8 in the morning.

im glad you brought them up,been meaning to get more albums from them. got urkraft a long ass time ago. really liked it but never really followed much on the band. was hesitant to pick up newer material cause i heard their lead vocal guy left and they replaced him with a guy who has clean vocals. cant imagine clean vocals over black metal.

have any suggestions on what else to check out?

think i am going to have a weekly metal thread from now on. show off random bands i like

jake's metal mondays

I'd recommend their last two albums, especially Farsotstider, which is WAY darker than anything they've ever released and Thomas' vocals are meaner and more aggressive than ever. Everything is just ridiculously heavy and it kicks ass from front to back.

I don't know about the whole clean vocals thing though..Vansinnesvisor has parts of one or two songs with clean vocals, but it's more like how early Anorexia Nervosa clean vocals are (tormented, basically). The music sounds more similar to Urkraft than Farsotstider in that it's got more "viking" parts. I got Urkraft first also, but I like these other two albums much better.

They haven't released an album with their new vocalist yet, but you can hear him if you listen to early Naglfar (which I highly recommend). He's got great harsh vocals, but I've never heard any clean vocals from him.

And please do make a metal thread, it's good for the heart.
