I feel you 12er. But by the same token I can't fault a man for trying to be noticed by any means in this oversaturated game. I say let every man go for his like I'm goin for mine and may the best man win. If that means cats got to make they shit knock 3 times as hard to stand out from a bigger crowd, so be it. The question then becomes, who's up for the challenge? Historically the game has moved in cycles, but due to modern technology, it seems as if we are moving into unchartered territory. However, I'm kinda old fashioned in believing that quality music will always stand out. So I challenge everyone currently in the game or considering jumping in the pot to let the music speak in 2003...

^^I feel that.

to me i aint trippin on all that talk at all, I gives a fuck if people are weak and try to play the role as they the kingpin. to me music is music, dont matter if u put tons of lip on it or not, in the end the music will speak for its self. so i aint even trippin if cats wanna post they shit all the time or tryna promote like they on top of the stack, who cares what the say, its all a bunch of letters anyway, to do what?....for other cats to peep the material, thats it. now once u peep the material if u think its tight then its tight, if it aint feelin it then u know the cat weak and u know for yourself that u can create somethin bigger and better, thats all that comes from just peepin. dont hate that these otha cats is tryna make it big, just think to your self, oh hes weak, and know that u got more talent then him, so u aint gotta worry bout that dude, so in turn should make u happy instead of oh why this noname postin this shit. ya dig?

and about that "nobody is bubbling right now" comment. why is that? is it because theres too many cats that wanna rap nowadays? to me hell naw, these up and comers are giving these big league cats a run for their dolla.....is it because those artists who are established arent putting out quality material? maybe. maybe the fans are tired of the same ol shit comin out the bay from these artists and are lookin for some otha shit, so they peep all the upcomers and the underground scene. ya feel? the reason i think aint nobody bubblin somethin major right now is because there IS a lot of talent comin out the bay in all directions. newcomers comin with some heat which cats are feelin....which means that since these new cats is takin they turn at the spotlight (and still might not even be known) that takes the spotlight away from the og rappers.....so to me I think the bay scene IS bubbling with a variety of different flavors, and the reason no one in particular is bubbling way more then the rest is because fans are buying all these cats new shit and not spending they money on the same ol rapper. so its like money aint just being spent on one rapper, its gettin spread across the table with these upcomers projects they comin with.....

so in conclusion i disagree with what your sayin, cause to me the bay IS bubblin just nobody in particular cause these new cats is comin up knockin blocks off the wall.....comin out the gate hard as fuck!

its all about competition, if their wasnt no competition then yeah, muhfuckas are gonna bubble....but since their is a grip of competition in the bay everybody gettin small shares of the pie, like dude was sayin.....

I just say let everybody do they own thang, whether it be for skrill or just for fun....yall takin this shit too serious, if the music is tight their people gonna buy it, if u think your shit tight and u think u should be deservin more sales, then get the fuck out the bay and slang yo shit out the midwest or some state which aint crowded and watch your shit blow....

Mista CaNE said:
In the bay people r still waitin for cats who aint dropped a tape since 96 to drop rather then the next hot act.
I think this is the realest point that has been made in this post, and it agrees AND contradicts what B-12 is saying.

The bottom line is if your putting out a hot product that its all good. To add to your point, I have lost faith in the majority of the "ghetto royalty" 12 is talking about. To me some of these people could easily be the hottest artists in the game yet have no respect for rap itself. Talented artists like JT the Bigga figga don't even lace their new CDs with 9 new tracks...other artists seem more happy with makin a shitty cd and gettin a quick buck than producing a quality product that will help them in the long run. Besides that, artists that were popular like 11/5, Brotha Lynch, Dush Tray etc. have waited YEARS to drop new albums and as a result their sales suffer regardless of the quality of their album.

And I don't think its just the artists on this board that are guilty of shameless promotion. Almost every damn artist in the bay floods the message boards, the music stores, the malls, the clubs with promotion for there cds. And I dont think its their promotion that hurts the game but their cds. If you promote your product well you sell it. I have seen more NH flyers, posters, etc in the last 3 months then any other cd, and from what Savage C seems to have said in the last few months is the album has done quite well. Ive never heard NH, but on the other hand my 2 favorite CDs of the year (Done Deal Fam and United Ghettos of America) have not promoted their shit as well. I havent seen posters or even flyers for either one at all in the last six months. As a result, Im sure their sales are suffering. While NH and other groups are hitting up the promotion heavy, other good artists who should be selling 100K are falling well short.

12, I fully agree with you when you say people are whining and hatin' on other peoples shit on here. A lot of artists are wack on here too. One thing I know though, is that they are putting hard work into their shit, but they just arent there yet. I think that the market is saturated cause rappers actually think they are puttin out a tight product. I dont think a lot of people release the work a lot of rappers like Yuk and Quinn and even new commers like Willie Henn have put in before they released a cd.

very true... the game is too easily accessible.

very few business minded individuals these days. Folks doin' albums just to say they have an album out ... or to get pussy or to get some fame... There's an enormous amount of work to be done AFTER the album is recorded in order for you to have even the slightest chance to see some success in the game. We just gotta wait for the game to swallow up the dont-knows and free up shelf space for the serious folks.

"Aint none of yall satisfied till one of us dies. And the bay fallin way behind and yall wonderin why." - B-12 of Riderlife in the song "Rap Game"

B you and all the close home boys of yours you mentioned could blow up the mainstream world, underground world, and even some of these haters' world if you all put your minds together and came out with something together. These bay area compilations are simply tracks sent in from artists to other artists and none of them are actually working together except a few on a few tracks. Songs like the Jt, Maine-o,Tay, Big Mac song on the Nard T that i cant wait to pick up will blow up the bay. Imagine just one track with all the people you said you were close with and imagine another track with all the peeps you said you was feelin. The bay has talent the radio has never even imagined of. Now if sucess is an option that would make some artists think "sellout" your in the wrong buisness. Stick to house parties and cds that dont sell. The bay is ready to explode and we just need the right dirsection from the cats you say still get pumped to this shit. stay up, keep makin the product.

B-12 i read this post and had to respond. What I think your not realizing on this issue is the fact that these straving artist myself included , you could call it vanity you could call it whatever you want but the truth is that the bullshit out the bay is the same old recyled bullshit thats been coming out for 10 years. I'm SORRY! If the above mentioned kats haven't brought the west back(with the exception of the new kats on your list) most likely they won't. BOTTOM LINE!

It's like kats keep going in a abandoned house trying to find something new out of it. But reality is it's the same abandoned house everytime. I'm speaking as an artist but also as a fan. I know I truly aint bought some bay shit in along time. Not hate on my bay partna's but it's just real. I respect the older bay kats who know its past their time and are trying to pass the game on to their younger prodigys(not meaning younger by age, but by getting out on the underground circuit).

You can pray over these old rappers all day and it aint gonna change the fact that what they had was minimal.

Now if i come with all honesty most of them were subpar at best, and saw their peeks probably long ago. Now I know I'm ah catch heat for that statement but it my own feelings so don't get all worked up. The track were oh to familiar(still are) and the reality the industry has moved on and us we are the sttubborn basterds stuck in the past. I would hate to see what the east would be like if they would have passed up nas to put Doiug fresh in the forefront , him and kool moe dee. i us to love kool moe but his time passed, so have these bay kats, let em rest in their old glory lest the west coast be finished on the underground as well as the mainstream. The underground is all we had left now in my eyes it's gone. It's watered down...

Now yall can get mad but the proof is right before our eyes. I miss the day where new hungry minds ruled the underground.

My 38 cents

D.U.G.O.U.T. goes in the new comer section in this post and like was mentioned earlier.....if it ain't for love then most should get out...cause the meal tickets aint for everyone in this game. I fall in that category...I do it cause I feel it in my heart and because it's pretty much all I know at this point. Am I in it for money? Shyt naw....check the soundscans for Dugout....they hurtin.....compared to what I would have thought when I first entered the game. Alot of you may read that and say..."how can you admit your sound scans aint doin good?"......why beat around the bush....it's true. I hear it all the time from folks who put out cd's...."yea playa we doin good sold around 3,500 copies..." yet ain't nobody talkin bout they album....go fucken figure huh? Man at this point all thats keepin me in the game is love and desire cause the bread aint there and I ain't one to brag on how "heated or verbally sick" I am.

I think what Tre said was a Harsh Reality...but some need to hear it. Fan or Artist. B12 speaks on some real shyt....shyt that makes people think about what they are doin here in this business and if it's worth you losing your money instead of going out to start your "real" life, the life most of the world thinks 90% of us should lead....the "house, kids, sunday bbq's & football and all the above and not listed". I just came to terms with that a long time ago that the life I just listed ain't for me...so I guess my stubborn ass is gonna die broke tryin...I don't know another way at this point.

So I guess case & point - If you in this and think it's your meal ticket and you been doin it for some years now and still aint seen no kinda bread...sit down and think if you love it that much, cause this business can take you and slapp the shyt out of you when you least expect it and then you left lookin stupid. I got love for the cats hustlin and gettin bread...you can see that some of them were just born for it....names listed....Awax, Kee, Dutch, Mac & Ak and so many more. They got it in they veins man and it shows. I think there are plenty of artists/labels on here that have that same drive it's just taking a little longer cause the pluggs are still just gettin to them...who knows.

I'll give it another shot in 2K3 and let the fans tell it who follow Dugout....either way yall...one love...and keep on hustlin in this shyt.

my 2cents.

Tre: I think you missed a big part of my post where I am rooting for alot of relatively unknown cats. I've actually got a big project in the works involving only unknown artists. As far as sub-par Bay cats. I dont see it. Most of the legends are still making tight shit but the game has passed alot of them by. Thats true. But no new booty is gonna blow up with ego and not being humble. Period. The establishement wont hand the torch to soomeone not equipped to run with it.

As far as ANYONE, new or old doing well on an independent from the Bay. Its been a few years.

Chew: One love bro.
