I recently quit my job to finally pursue my career in butchery (I've done it on & off but never completed my apprenticeship). I know its not the most $$$ u can make in food service but I've done everything in food service have a degree in Culinary Art & Restaurant management & its a rough road . No benifit package nothing . U gotta go w/ Grocery or a union position in the food game to have some sort of stability in your life . I would have choose a different path I payed 60k plus for my degree & now Im 32 & food service is not the bizz to be in .. lol But bankers & many others are saying the same .. . However I will evolve & if all else fails I'll go back to Morton's of Chicago steakhouse & wait tables for $200-300 per night ... yes we bring cash in quick , but paychecks are 0 ... LOL I like doing yard work everyday I gotta say its relaxing as fuck ... Im happy thats what matters ..

I am an archaeologist working in the boreal forest. We get contracted out by big oil companies to remove any cultural/heritage material before they destroy the landscape to mine for bitumen or put down some pipe lines, etc. We use ATV's or helicopters to get into the really hard to reach areas. First Nations (think you guys call them Indians) used to traverse these areas on foot. Sometimes you'll run into an old trapper cabin from the early to mid 1900s. Typically, we are looking for prehistoric (before white man) stuff but if there is historic materials (after white man) we'll have to remove that too.
cool sounds like an interesting job. How did you get into it? Your in Ontario right?

You must have a bachelors degree in anthropology or archaeology depending on whether or not the school lumps those two disciplines together or not. I live in Alberta. To hold a permit in archaeology here you must have your masters; in BC it's different, you just need your bachelors and a certain amount of experience. I am not too sure about the other provinces.

I'm alright. Had a good job and made good money till the company went bankrupt. Then I started my own company in the middle of the financial crisis. Has been difficult, but I'm my own boss. And slowly but surely the business is getting better and better.

Lucky for me I like to drink from time to time and drinking is a big part of doing business in China. lol

I hate my job but love my paychecks....

i've worked for the same company for 12 years and have been laid off twice, once recently and was called back by another division that I worked for previously for 9 years. Right now i'm making twice as much as everyone on the line because I got my same pay to come back and be an operator when I was a technician previously. I'm currently one year away from getting my Bachelors in Networking so hopefully can jump to something a bit more secure.

I love my job, but it's getting boring as fuck. Same shit different day. Good job security, though. I got my own office and my own sound booth. I'm a slot tech/sound engineer at one of my tribes casinos. I work with slot machines and work the sound board when the casino gets any sort of entertainment in the lounge.
