i dont give a fuck if its "for me" or not who gives a shit anyway.
all im saying is i can produce a beat on whatever yeah - but its slow as fuck and i can't be creative having to think about how to work the damn thing. producing on reason is all second nature to me its like wham bam thank you maam. plus most vst's have regular ass sounds that i can get in a reason refill or a sample cd anyway.
even all these expensive ass roland, yamaha, korg keyboards be hella dissapointing when i actually start messing with them...
i have proboly 250 gb worth of sounds to use for reason maybe this is why i feel this way - hella drums, synths, fx, loops, horns, guitar, vox samples, pads, percussion, samples, man fuck vsts i still aint even used all the sounds i went on a frenzy when i started getitng sounds and aint stopped since
That's great buddy. To me VSTs are just another TOOL for making music. There's no reason at all to say FUCK IT. If anything, they should be embraced, along with samples, hardware synths/keyboards and acoustic instruments. I really don't understand the reason to hate VSTs so much.
But whatever, use what you use and what you feel comfortable with. One thing for sure, I have no clue how I would be able to imitate long sustained synth sounds like leads, basses, pads, etc... with just single-shot samples without having to loop the sound to extend it. Not to mention, realtime modulations in the sound like pitch bend, LFO,etc... Just seems like you might get more of that machine-gun effect as well when playing with just pure samples. Maybe if the samples are some huge multi-sampled library that captures different velocities,etc..., then it might be cool. To me I just like to go for that realtime sound processing when playing synth sounds because it'll capture everything in the sound, that's why I go the VST route in that regard. With FX sounds I might go the sample route, but for actual musical pieces like synth bass, leads, pads, I'd definitely rather go with realtime synth processing. Unless of course, like I said, it's a very high quality multi-sampled library, then it might work for the job.
Basically what I'm trying to say is for example using a REAL recorded acoustic guitar is the better choice, than using a sampled-library acoustic guitar. The actual recorded guitar will capture all the characteristics of the sound, which a sampled set might not. So to me, synth sounds are REAL instruments as well and they should be played from an actual synth in realtime to capture all the characterists of the sound.
