I was checkin these programs on youtubes and they have some real quality sounds. But when I came across these i was confronted with 40 somethin rar files.

What I wanna ask do these programs take up a lot of space?

And do they work as vsts or are they a seperate program which you record on the spot?

you'll need about 8 gigs of space for sonic synth.

hypersonic is well under a gig if i remember correctly, but unless you have a crack (which i doubt exists for this or any other steinberg product), then you won't be able to run it

you'll also need a DAW to run these VST's, as they don't come with standalone apps like arturia / native instruments products do.

I got Hypersonic2. It's slightly under 2GBs. Not bad for all the sounds it has. I really like it's electric basses and strings. There's other nice sounds like pads and leads, but I would say I mainly use it for E. Bass and Strings. I love the deep sound of that "Finger Bass" patch.

As far as those other synths you mentioned, I ain't completely sure, but I do think they are way bigger in size than Hypersonic2.

Check out Spectrasonics Atmosphere & Trilogy. I haven't used them, but everyone gives them positives reviews. Trilogy is supposebly one of the best, if not the best for all your bass needs.

i use trilogy frequently on basses, but never really did understand the hype surrounding atmosphere...

I have thorough experience with all three of the plug-ins listed in the main thread post.

These programs are VST's and work as VST's. Sample Tank 2 XL has a standalone, as well as Hypersonic. Also, you can use Sonik Synth 2 sounds inside of Sample Tank 2. For instance, if you don't care for the interface, you can just install the sample library, and make a folder for it in your Sample Tank 2 directory, and use Sonik Synth fully and completely functional inside of Sample Tank.

Hypersonic 2 is solid. But it's a little dated, however it still sounds amazing. For lead synths, pads, bass, and for it's relatively extremely small size, it smashes on both Sonik Synth 2 and Sample Tank 2 XL.

Sonik Synth 2 has good atmospheric sounds and pads, and some good orchestral sounds, and guitar sounds. That is all. There are really hundreds, thousands of samples, that are junk.

Same with Sample Tank 2 XL. They are both very large, I think my Sample Tank 2 XL takes up almost 8 GB, and Sonik Synth 2 is a bit bigger.

I mainly use Sample Tank and Sonik Synth for Electric Piano sounds, Guitar sounds, and Orchestral, realistic sounds.

Hypersonic 2 requires a dongle, and the installation can be a bit of a headache if you run other Steinberg products.

But I've been using VST Plugins for quite some time now and for the size, I don't know how Steinberg created such an amazing plug-in under 2 GB. Probably because they invented VST technology? =) Very versatile and great sounds, almost every sound is use able.

Again, these products are very old.

Korg Legacy was very appealing, and still is to some, but Korg really lost it on the Wrapper. The plug-in doesn't wrap properly and most who use this product, run into major difficulties and end up re-installing and eventually getting rid of it, like I did.

It's all about ReFX Nexus now.

All you need to be focusing on is ReFX Nexus and it's many, many great expansions and updates. This plug-in is a beast, and I use it on everything, it's my main source for sounds, by far the greatest and is a true nex gen in VST/Soft Synth technology.

Full installation + all of the expansions, this monster takes up about 10 GB and well worth it. I can sit at my keys for hours, and not record anything, just playing around with all of the different high quality sounds this thing outputs!

Later.

Nexus looks cool, but it just seems like the entire world uses it so the sounds might become noticeable. Or is each sound tweakable to the point you can make it sound slightly different each time?

Did you actually buy it or download it for free? I want to try it, but it just seems like a real bitch to download considering it's size.

Don't be fooled by the amount of people that use it, there are plenty and plenty of sounds to go around, and there are always new expansions coming out, so it's not the same old sounds! There's no way someone can hear a sound from a VST you use and be able to tell you what it came from, or what patch it was, unless they used that specific patch at least 10 times on different occasions and were very, very familiar with that specific plug-in the patch came from. But yes, you can tweak the sounds, I don't know why you would want to, the specific sounds Nexus has, are tweaked sounds, from professional sound designers. You can also create your own expansions, and release your own patches.

Trust me when I say this, Nexus is the best right now, there is nothing that even compares to it on any level, period, it's better than most hardware workstations/sound modules. Straight up!

Nexus has replaced like half of my VST arsenal.

I downloaded it, yes, and yes it is very large and can be a difficult process to install if you don't know what you are doing, but you only have to do it once, and then back it up on DVD+R.

Once you use it for the first time, you won't be using any other plug-ins for awhile instrument wise. The quality and depth of professional sound this thing outputs is second to none.

I know I sound like a salesman, but for real, things a fucking beast man. VST companies are turning in their graves trying to come up with the next best thing, but it's already here, and it's name is ReFX Nexus.
