Rumor breakdown: Speculation on major past WWE stars joining TNA
By Brian Cantor
Oct 28, 2009 - 3:16:40 PM

As was reported shortly after news broke that Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff signed with TNA, all sources are indicating that the two signings were part of something much bigger going within the number two wrestling promotion. Though either a timeslot change for iMPACT! (which Spike TV has denied at press time) or the addition of new TNA broadcasts are at the forefront of speculation, another aspect breaking within the wrestling industry is that other major wrestling names will follow Hogan and Bischoff to TNA.

F4WOnline.com's Wrestling Observer breaks down the big names who are part of said speculation:

Steve Austin
- Rumors have already been linking Austin to TNA, although sources close to him do not believe he wants to actively work with a wrestling company, as doing so would hinder his Hollywood credibility.

Bill Goldberg - TNA approached Goldberg independently of the Hogan/Bischoff deal, but there is not believed to be significant interest on Goldberg's part.

Ric Flair - As Flair has a contract that links him professionally to Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, one would assume Flair is joining TNA. At the same time, TNA has unsuccessfully tried to sign Flair in the past and it is not clear he would do something that puts him in such direct opposition with Vince McMahon. Flair would neither confirm nor deny his TNA prospects.

Diamond Dallas Page - Though his name has come up in rumors, he has personally given no indication that he's joining TNA.

Jimmy Hart - Despite being a close partner and collaborator with Hulk Hogan, Hart has said that he is not part of the TNA deal.

Kennedy - He is expected to remain distanced from wrestling as he pursues an acting career.

Rob Van Dam - Hogan and Bischoff are big proponents of getting RVD into the company, although he had not made a decision at press time.
The only one of those that I could see happening within the next couple weeks is Van Dam... and possibly Jimmy Hart.

DDP would be cool

If Austin signed with TNA I'd shit bricks, but I give that approximately 0.01% chance of actually happening.

DEBUNKING TNA MONDAY RUMORS, TNA CREATIVE RUMORS AND MORE

by Mike Johnson @ 10:47 PM on 10/28/2009

Several top TNA officials, including Dixie Carter and creative head Vince Russo had a meeting with SpikeTV officials in New York City to work on strategies going forward. It was something that had been planned well in advance of yesterday's announcement that Hulk Hogan was coming into the company as the two sides meet several times a year to go over different aspects of the synergy between TNA and Spike. For those interested, Jeff Jarrett was not present. Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff were not there, nor were they scheduled to be as Hogan is in the middle of his media tour.

Numerous sources have noted that Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff are not taking over the creative reigns of the company, despite what has been claimed elsewhere. I am sure Hogan will have creative control over how he is used, but Vince Russo, Ed Ferrara, etc. are not being replaced.

Obviously, Hogan is going to have some influence. I am told he has suggestions of talents he'd like to see brought into the company but there are no wrestlers or personalities 100% set yet and there is no one that TNA is required to use as part of the Hogan-Bischoff deal.

In regard to rumors of TNA being moved to Mondays, there is nothing to that at this time, according to SpikeTV sources. TNA's production schedule is set through April of 2010 while house show tours are already booked through May. Spike wants to continue to build Impact as their destination show for Thursdays, one of the reasons the Saturday replay was eliminated a few weeks back.

There has been no discussion of changing the Impact format from a taped series to a live production, either.

The TNA office staff were informed Hulk Hogan was coming into the company about 15 minutes before the press conference. I am told only 5-6 people total were aware the deal was even going down.

Foley only played a part-owner of TNA on camera, he never held any power or position of booker.

im talkin bout how he is still wrestling (taking up tv time/spotlight) from other younger wrestlers who deserve it
OK i feel you on that....only thing I'd be interesting in seeing him do is hardcore stuff and we all know he's at an age where he can't do that much anymore....so I don't really have any interest in seeing Foley in ANY wrestling company these days. He was ok as an announcer though.

NoDQ.com > WWE > Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair taken off WWE Alumni
Posted by Chris Kaufman on 10/29/2009 at 03:27 PM

Both Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair have been removed from the Alumni section of WWE's official website. When it comes to Hogan, it would indicate hard feelings about him signing with TNA. In the case of Flair, let the speculation begin.

An interesting thing to note is that Eric Bischoff is still on the site... for now.

NoDQ.com > TNA > News on TNA moving to Monday nights
Posted by Randy Gordon on 10/28/2009 at 02:25 PM

Sources in TNA have claimed that a meeting would be held this week with Spike TV in regards to moving Impact to Monday night from 8-10 PM against RAW.

However, Spike TV's Brian Diamond said there would not be a time slot change right now. According to Diamond, their initial goal right now is to use Hogan to strengthen the Thursday night time slot. He also said that the deal came together so quickly and they are still figuring out a long-term game plan.

NoDQ.com > TNA > Ex-WWE star predicts the end of TNA
Posted by Randy Gordon on 10/28/2009 at 01:11 PM

The Honky Tonk Man posted the following blog:

As an outsider looking in, I see the end of TNA. Is Hogan a double agent? Dumping Jarrett a few weeks ago, Russo having heat with every heart beating person on the planet to now work beside Hogan. Don't think so.

Hogan and WWe have been in bed for the last 20 years. Look what happened with the coke (cocaine) league XWF. As soon as they did all the tapes for to sell to TV, WWe pulled all the top players i.e. Hogan, Henning, Lawler and the list went on, thus killing XWF after they spent 30 million dollars.

This Dixie Carter has fell into the arms of the Hillbilly Jarretts, the Vince "man of God" Russo who said anyone over 30 was too old for the business! Now of all people, she wants to throw money at Eric Bischoff and Hogan. Good for you Hulkster, hope you kick some cheese back to Vince. I see the scam. TNA dead in 12 months.

WWe kills from the inside you idiots. WCW was the master plan. XWF was the next victim. ROH will fall when Vince wants them to go away. As long as they are not a PPV or TV threat, they will live on. Not wrong, just good business. Let the other guys spend and spend and spend, then take the top guys and the promotion starts to die. Tie up the buildings where they have no place to run. Case in point, WWe will tie up any buildings around the world after they see the numbers of the Hogan Aussie Tour.

Do you think for one minute WWe is going to let Hogan and Flair tour the world for TNA? Not going to happen.

Till we meet again,
Adios

For the first time ever, TNA (or anything TNA-related for that matter) has become a trending topic on Twitter.

For those of you wondering why TNA would sign Hulk Hogan, now you know the reason. Hogan's name brings the kind of mainstream buzz that the company has needed for years.
