You just gotta be a fan for a minute and fall back in love with the music. When I was early in my career I would come back with my mind made up that I ain't stoppin' until I'm smashin' the hardest cats doing music. You gotta be passionate about it.

I know what you mean, last time i got the block I made a couple renditions of other songs and they came out real tight. Now I got my friend living with me and its hard for me to do anything cuz I always do my thing when I'm alone.

I AGREE WITH WHAT SICK WID IT SAID. WHILE YOU'RE EXPERIENCING THE BLOCK YOU SHOULD MOVE ON TO OTHER THINGS. DO YOU RAP? MAYBE YOU SHOULD TAKE THIS TIME TO GET MORE INVOLVED WITH YOUR ENGINEERING SKILLS (THAT'S IF YOUR SKILLS ARENT UP TO PAR NOW).

EVERY BEAT MAKER/PRODUCER/COMPOSER I KNOW HAS GONE THROUGH THIS AND WILL CONTINUE TO GO THROUGH IT.

ENJOY THE MUSIC MAN AND BE A FAN FOR A WHILE.

^I notice when my beats are slipping my freestyling skills sharpen up a bit. I'm no engineer yet but am going to recording arts school next year to learn how to be one. I have no serious gear yet just reason and a MIDI keyboard but one can do alot with just that.

Or do what D-Sane does......eat some e-bombs and see how creative you can be. :)

I've actually done that....lol. But if you're not into recreational pharmaceuticals......what I do is start listening to other types of music and find some cool samples I like and get inspired that way until I get back into the groove of composing original pieces.

^ sounds like a good idea lol, can't do it right now cuz i'm in the navy and get random p-tests. I know when I am able to smoke dank I always came up with tight ass beats in my head but never had gear in that time. I'm kinda growing weary of reason thats all, I'm short on good bass sounds so I tend to use the same one over and over again but my tracks are still coming out pretty good. I might need to invest in some sample CDs

You use any VST instruments? I was a non-believer for a long time (I'm from the old school and refuse to give in to the new wave of software based instruments) but within the past few months I have acquired numerous VSTi's. I've pretty much fallen in love with Battery and have put together a ton of drum kits for it. I've also been using the KORG Legacy collection.....Sample Tank 2XL.....Novation V-Station.....and several others.

Honestly....I think the cure to beat makers block is new sounds. There's nothing like gettin' some new shit and finding that one tight ass sound that gets the creative juices flowin'.

I got 2 recording softwares but niether of them have a rewire to reason which really sucks 4 me. They most likley got VXT support but they are faultys and I got no instruction books, I'll probably get sonar 3 or something like that from Ebay on an educational discount cuzce i'm going to recording arts school

damn i was just about to say the same damn thing...

either program your own or download em from some place... finding tight instruments / samples is one of my main motivations for making a beat. if i run into something i like, i get right down to work...

the last one i made...

I'm using VSTi's more and more also. In the beginning they were garbage but that's not the case anymore!

There's nothing like getting a fresh batch of new sounds to work with, you ain't bullshittin'! I'm a junky when it comes to sounds. I can't even begin to tell you how deep my archives are. Way more than I could ever use in this lifetime though!

Drum kits? Building those on a computer is killin' every other option available, no question about it. It's real easy to get spoiled by how robust it is. If you have to dump your kits into some gear, it's a piece of cake too.

I come from the old school too and have been stubborn with all this computer based shit but at this point it's simply undeniable!

new sounds, new equipment or new playing style. Try setting your keyboard to a scale not normally used in "western" music. You may turn out some ill shit.

I also use sample tank xl. For a long time I only told "close" friends about it. I have this weird idea that if everyone gets their hands on something they will abuse it like a cheap whore (the triton for example).

So I'll come clean when it comes to vsts/soft synths:

SAMPLE TANK XL 2
HALION
MACH 5

I said no to the mpc 4000 and decided to use giga sampler :)

Yeah......I went on a downloading spree and now have about 16 VSTi's. I'm using Battery, SampleTank 2XL, KORG Legacy Collection, ALBINO 2.0 and V-Station mostly.....but I have a rediculous arsenal at this point and am rarely using my hardware anymore. There's always that 1 sound though that I can't seem to find on the software that I end up having to go to the hardware for.....so it's nice to have the modules and boards as options. I have 6 modules and 2 keyboards now too......along with a pile of samples that I'll probably never get to.
