that shits a trip..at first the nortenos were the paisa/farmers
The earliest Mexican prisoners from Northern California were not paisas, they were Chicanos. And, very few of them were farmers. They lived in the established towns and cities, in houses, in Chicano neighborhoods, and most of them went to prison for heroin related offenses. They were living the same "pachuco" style seen in LA at the time.
Also, even the farmers, for the most part, weren't paisas. The earliest UFW members were mostly Chicanos. Farming was just their culture, going back to when California was still Mexico.
that were looked down on by southern chicanos and now its the other way around..
Southern Chicanos, gang affiliated or not, may have looked down on Northern Chicanos, gang affiliated or not, because they were more willing to co op with American culture. This wasn't even necessarily true, it was just the perception in LA. Sureno gang members, on the other hand, looked down on Norteno gang members because they weren't from places as violent as LA was, and they could sense that from doing time with them. The "farmer" label was a facetious insult. Very few Norteno gang members were farmers. Perhaps some between San Jose and Salinas were. But for the most part, farmers are farmers. They get up at 4 in the morning, and farm. They don't do dope, sell dope, and get in fights like the neighborhood and city Chicanos from N. Cal who wound up in prison did. The Nortenos that were farmers must have been long removed from that culture by the time they started getting involved with gang related activities. The gang life and the farm life are two separate universes.
shit just keeps going in cycles but in the end raza keeps killing raza, the gavacho sits on the sideline enjoying the show and keeping the real power.
Now that's the truth.
