If I were you, I would think before I post something like this
Take your own advice.

1. There aren't 10 million known species, 10 million is the estimated number of species. The number of described species is much lower, probably a little over a million. Nobody knows for sure because the last species census was done in 1949
According to this link the numbers are 3-30 million.

http://animals.about.com/b/2007/08/13/how-many-species-on-earth.htm

This site says 5-30 million and according to the 2005 Millennium Ecosystem Assessment notes, "approximately 2 million have been formally described. "

http://www.enviroliteracy.org/article.php/58.html

Finally, did I say there were 10 million known species? I don't believe I ever made a distinction, sue me for not doing so but it doesn't matter.

2. Out of the million plus species we know, several hundred thousands are plants (which do not make sex, for obvious reason), fungi (same thing), bacteria, or species which are hermaphrodites, have more than two sexes, or don't have sexes at all
We aren't talking about plants. I'M also not talking about hermaphrodites (both types) or life that may be asexual in nature. The two links I provided have nothing to do with plant life, cover animal life and place the numbers higher than what you stated.

3. The fact that 2000 species are known to engage in homosexual activity, does not mean that the other n-2000, where n is the total number of animal species that have two distinct sexes have been observed not to do so. The vast majority simply haven't been studied.
No one said this wasn't the case, nor was it ever implied. What was clearly stated is that the environment has a role in the sexual behavior, and the following quote from the article posted by the OP endorses what I've previously said about homosexual activity in prison, transitional and transitory homsexuality.

Captivity, scientists say, may bring out gay behaviors in part because of a scarcity of opposite-sex mates. In addition, an enclosed environment boosts an animal’s stress levels, leading to a greater urge to relieve the stress. Some of the same influences may encourage what some researchers call “situational homosexuality” in humans in same-sex settings such as prisons or sports teams.

that's your original post:

Under 2000 species have been observed practicing homosexual activity, yet there are like what 10 million species on the planet? Seems societal factors have a lot to do with this.

@ heresy..

regardless of how many millions of speices there are...DOESNT MEAN WE HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO STUDY THE HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR IN ALL OF THEM...

so if ur gonna say we only have seen 2000....well thats cuz theres millions more to look at...
