you are basically just getting an AA degree for the $18000 at Heald...now you do get a more specialized job related degree, but you could go to a JC and spend $700-$800 on tuition instead and basically get the same thing....

but it really is all that you make of it, its more who you are then where you go...but I think they brainwash people who go to Heald and tell them that it is more than it really is...

Actually its not the same certification cause in order to get a better payin job you have to get better courses and more experience in the field itself..

For me it was better to go to JC cause 1. i didnt have to take out a loan to go to school.

2. The actually gave me up to date schooling that was to my level

3. They gave me programs that the business world is using today.

So I finish JC fast then I would have Heald.. oh and even if you try to go to JC after you go to Heald.. JC can't give you credit for some of the Heald courses.......

18 months at heald is the same as two 9 month school years at a JC...

if you take 15 units a semester and take the right classes, two years will get you an AA....

and your AA at a JC can allow you to transfer to a 4 year university if you decide to, while the Heald classes will most likely not be able to transfer so if you wanted to get a degree from a uc or state college, you would have to start all over....

Junior Colleges are the worst excuse for school I've ever seen. At least the one in Salinas is. I went for two years, the counselors were no help(if you were lucky enough to be able to get in to see one). The classes were way too long(1 1/2 to three hours) the classes were too crowded(30-45 students to one teacher) and the teachers are a fuckin joke. The semester system does not work for me. I might do well in a class for a month or two, Then I start to get bored, I start slacking on my work and by the end of almost SIX MONTHS in one class my grade has gone from an A to a C or D or worse. I bounced around on majors the whole time. At first I was interested in criminal justice, then business, then computers, then automotive work, then back to computers. It was a complete waste of my time and money.

Heald on the other hand.... Every one of my classes, except for my first period which has 25 students, has eleven students in it. The counselors are always there when you need them and there is no waiting for appointments. Your on a structured schedule therefore there is one set of classes for each major (no having to register and deal with the hassle of making sure all the classes you pick are right for your major). The teachers, at least almost all the ones I have had, have thier Doctorate in the field in which they are teaching and they actually make sure you are understanding the material before they move on.

If someone goes to Heald and then tries to transfer credits to a UC or state college that is their bad for not looking into it before they started. That is not a downside of going to that school thats just the way it is. They tell you about that before you start so there is no reason to even bring that up as an excuse for not finishing or going. Thats only a reason for choosing not to go at all.

Heald is extremely up to date. every computer is hooked up to a wireless infared network system. Every computer program and tool that you learn to use there will be used in the job you choose. As a tech. before your done you will be a certified electrician.

a situation might occur where somewhere later in life for a promotion or something, you might need to obtain a bachelor's degree for your job...in that case you would have to start over almost from scratch, where if you had an AA from a JC you would be halfway there already....i've seen it happen to people before...just something to think about....
