if you got the 3 lights you should be able to fix it by plugging it back in, 3 red lights usually mean that a wire was loose, so it should be all gravy, its happen to me

I've been through 4 Xboxes. It wasn't the wires.

One I even went through the trouble of trying the X-Clamp fix. It was pointless. I've gone through a PS3 also, so I can't really vouch for either. At this point I feel like it's just a fact of life that if you want to play video games, you're going to have to buy 500 consoles. The new systems have so much bullshit in them that can go wrong, and they do.

I bet I could buy a crusty NES off of Ebay, drop it in a few puddles and as long as i blew into the cartridge, it would still turn on.

mine is just out of warranty according to MS.....manufacture date was 3.16.2007
they said no....which is fine....ive been hearing more stories about after you get it back its worse than before....guess its hit and miss...i havent had any issue with my 3 year old console and most ive heard about shit out in less than that....i was looking into the new slim model....but it has the same problem instead of a red ring it has a red eye....you would think MS would figure this shit out....is it not cost effective these days to make a good product....my sega master system, genesis, nes and snes never had issues nor my ps1 for that matter.....my ps2 broke after 2 years...my game cube still works....my original xbox works though its been soft modded several times due to hard drive issues....

think i'll wait on the slim for another year.....also to fix my 360 ( re flow the circuit board is only 40.00 ) and it comes with a year warranty so thats my plan

i have had the red rings 6 times someone told me to look for built dates after august 2008 on the back of the 360. after that point they supposively had solved the over heating issue so thats when i bought my second 360 so i have two in case one breaks down. there are plenty of quick breakdown on you tube on how to fix your xbox but why not have the professionals do it all it costs is time

Yeah. The towel trick is a temporary fix. Not a permanent one. How long does it take to get your system back if you mail it to Microsoft? Im thinking about getting the new 360. Hopefully they don't fail as much.

The red dot of death on the new 360s shuts your xbox down before it overheats then you just need to let it cool down an you can start it back up. Its a preventive measure.
