i used to watch rap city all the time i decided today to give it a peep and well i wasnt surpirised it was what i thought it would be and i was disgusted for example "we bottle " poppin young joc and gorilla zoe wow that song was really making my stomach hurt so if the south is in control of the game does that mean lyricism and or people actually spittin hot verese are out and its nothing but rap lyrics dumbed down with no complex behind it just cars rims gold teeth pimp cups ect... the best southern albums i heard this year have been haystaks new joint ugks new one and devins new one other than that its sickening how retarded rap sounds now im stuck with replaying shit from 92-02 so its been about 5 years of hot garbage with a few exceptions a real select few.....................ohh yeah and i used to spend 200 and up on cds every other week i havnt bought a cd in months

if you are looking at the mainstream for your source for good music, and you are looking in the wrong direction. music has transformed into a business. a&r's and higher execs don't care about talent. they care about making a hit, and appealing to the 12-17 demoraphic. there was a time where you needed to have talent to get a major deal. once you got signed, they groomed you into an artists, gave you a buzz, then released your album. after that, the indie game blew up, so then the majors signed people who were pushin units and had a strong indie fan base. now? they just signing teenagers who can make catchy songs. it baffles me, with an arists like tech n9ne, who has a strong following, drops 100k albums, tours for most of the year, still ain't on a major yet, but we hear the same garbage on the radio. but don't listen to the radio or tv, as your main source.

I agree.

I love hearing good beats with lyrics that mix in well, on the other hand I can't listen to mainstream rubbish with rappers constantly talking about how many houses and cars they got because little teenage white girls buy their albums.

I stopped watching Rap City back in 1999. Real talk. I haven't listened 2 the radio since 1996. I remember being in the record store once or twice a week looking for new shit. I go like once a month now(if I'm lucky). Even when an artist I like drops an album..... I'm not as excited 2 hear their new shit like I use to. I'm a collector of CD's so I'm always looking but the qaulity of music been down. I'm buying & replacing old 90's music rather then buying new shit cuz the new shit aont no good. And these wack ass DVD's that the artist be putting out are just as worse as the music. I got a bigger complaint about the hip hop DVD's & hip hop influenced movies then I do the hip hop music.

I've lost some interest, but not a whole lot. As you grow older times change. We're not into the kiddy hip hop anymore. We're looking for more of a mature sound. If that makes any sense. I've been listening to alot of alternative rock, oldies, and 80's lately.
