If people want to celebrate easter bunnies, eggs and pink chicks they have the right to. If people want to worship a blonde hair, blue eye hippy guy thats on them. If people want to cover themselves in ash without knowing why the hebrews did it thats on them. However I believe they should understand they are celebrating fertility rites, ashtarte and paganism. I'm not one do follow BLINDLY. Thats been a double edged sword in my 27 years of life on this planet you call earth.

See it's like this. Most people follow stuff because they were raised that way. If the majority of them did the proper research they'll see most celebrations are pagan and most stories have pagan influence. Do you know the origins of valentines day? I think not. The average american will spend bucks seeking the approval of a significant other on valentines day. They do this without knowledge of where it REALLY comes from. Feast of Lupercalia????????

I see what you're saying Heresy, but I do it because it makes me feel like a better person, not because of religious purposes. I was raised a Catholic, but now i just pick and choose to see what parts I want to accept and what parts I don't. Some stuff I do out of respect to my parents though. It's different growing up like I did, cuz to a lot of Mexican families the biggest things are Family and Religion. It's more complicated than just choosing what you think is right, family has to be taken under consideration.

Definetely Heresy. It's such a big thing in my family. I respect it and go to baptisms and stuff like that and even attend mass once in a while. But, if I was to straight up tell them I dont believe it, I would be an outcast. I go with it, I think a lot of people are made better people through this religion, even if there is a bunch of things I don't exactly believe in or agree with. If this religion kept a few of my uncle's, grandpa, dad, or whatever from becoming fuck ups, then let them believe. You feel me?

Why do people question what other people believe in the first place? If it doesn't concern you, don't trip off it, period. My belief system is not going to help, nor hurt, anybody on this planet. My Hail Mary's aren't fucking up your day, I'm not strangling people with my rosary, I'm not telling you to believe in Catholicism so you shouldn't tell me not to.

If I want to stick my head in the fire place and cover it with ashes, then give up social activities for 40 days because I believe it will make me a better person, nobody should question that.

Call me crazy, but other peoples beliefs don't open doors to personal attack or the questioning of that persons character.

1. I have fingers to type and a mouth to speak. I'll question WHOEVER and WHATEVER I want. YOU nor ANYONE else on this planet can STOP me from doing it. The only thing you can do is NOT answer when you are questioned.

2. I haven't told ANYONE to change. If you want to kneel before wooden or plastic statues and talk to the dead thats on YOU. BTW what does your bible say about praying and talking to the dead? What does it say about idols and statues?

3. If you want to stick your entire body in a fire place, bath in ash and run around naked that's on you. My question to you would be WHY are you doing that? After you told me why you do it I would ask about the ORIGINS of your practice.

4. Your belief system (meaning the religion you follow) has hurt people. Sydals actions may not have hurt people. Big difference.

5. No one has told anyone to not believe in what they believe in. If you want to believe in "wifoa7589hyq2784trg7wtf76h75t8hdy7tf775gy87" and send smoke signals to your "diety" be my guest. That will be between YOU and THE CREATOR when you meet him.

6. I find it odd that people can BLINDLY follow something WITHOUT knowing where it came from and what it REALLY means.

7. I don't believe anyone has personally attacked anyone *yet*. Pay attention to the following:

"@Oak, I understand you and I respect your answer"

I understood him and his answer and didn't bash him for what he believed. Because I had an idea of what was going down I asked him a question about his family and being an outcast. So where does this take us? Well it takes us back to the point that people follow things without knowing why.

I have a question to those who do practice/observe lent. You should strive to be correct 365 or for 40 days? Will being "good" or refraining for 40 days bring you any closer to GOD?

Heresy, throw out the origins of religion for a moment and think about how people give up things like drinking and smoking for lent. Now, you're right in that they should try to be "good" 365 days of the year instead of just the 40 days. But, people only help themselves and don't lose anything at all for sacrificing something. If they choose to give it up for 40 days and do it for the other 325 days of the year, that's up to them. But, for the 40 days they gave it up, they felt like a better person and it takes guilt off of them. It's not right, but a lot of people need to feel like they are doing something right in order for them to go on with their lives. I hope that makes sense.

the whole idea of lent is making a sacrifice, Jesus gave the ultimate sacrifice so we are supposed to follow in his footsteps and sacrifice for this 40 day period, the origins are not from the bible or anything from what jesus said, its most likely a tradition started by the early churches or from others trying to imitate jesus when he fasted in the dessert for 40 days

Lent used to be an extremely diffcult sacrifice, as the years went by the church made its requirements more leniant, back in the day it was way more strict, I know that my church (Maronite catholic church) requires followers to fast every wed, and friday from dusk till noon, and no meat on those days...I think its an extremely effective method of conditioning humans to eliminate some forms of sin from their lives...doesnt apply to everyone
