I'm looking to buy a new gun. I want a semi-auto .45 calibur. I already have a small self defense weapon in a 9mm. It has a long heavy trigger pull and a decent amount of recoil due to its size.

Anybody have any brand of .45 they'd recommend? I want something with an easy trigger pull, and accuracy. I wanna bring this to the range more often because my 9 is gonna be my self defense weapon. This one is just for fun.

My price range is between 250-500.

Yo man, scrap the 9 as the self defense weapon and use the 45. The 45 has much more stopping power and is less likely to go thru walls and doors. I would suggest a "security" shotgun or the high caliber pistol for the home defense weapon. Small caliber rounds are "faster" and have better range, but less stopping power. Bigger caliber rounds are "slower," which means less range but much more stopping power and are less likely to penetrate multiple, or accidental targets. Check out new/used Ruger pistols at your local gun shop...you should be able to find something in your price range.

Be careful not 2 shoot your eye out! lol. :dead:

When I picked up my Kel-Tec, my boy got a 9mm Ruger (I don't think you should get a 9mm Ruger, but that's just me). My Kel-Tec is the smallest, lightest 9mm on the market, easily concealable, so I'm keeping that as my self-defense weapon. I know it doesn't have stopping power, but I'm a full believer that a well placed shot from a .22 will do what is needed if it comes to that.

I'll check out the .45 Ruger. I shot off a .40 Glock and I really liked the feel, small recoil, and smooth pull.

My gunshop has a really nice Mossberg shotty, but I dont want one right now.

I dont see why I'd really need one, but if I got a .50 cal I might as well get a Desert Eagle, and I dont have that kind of $$.

What are some good makes/prices for a .50?

Shit man...I read that post before I bought a gun, and I'm reading again after having owned, used, and learned about them, and it makes a lot more sense to me now. Someone ought to make that shit vital. Damn, thanks for the bible to look through.

Everywhere else you go its in such technical terms that I read it, but it doesn't mean shit to me.

I know the differences between SA, DA, and DAO and I somewhat understand it (mind is a DAO, which accounts for why there's no safety and why the trigger pull is 8.5 lbs). But what would you say the big differences are and what do you prefer?

Yeah man, RHDSE!!! REAL HONKIES DON'T SEARCH EITHER!!

I suggest getting a 357, rather than a 45 (or 44).

Sig just came out with a nice 357.
Sig Pro 2340 357 mag

9's are nice, as long as it is a quality one. I have a Beretta 92fs 9mm (the ones troops carry in Iraq). I love it.

Why do you suggest a 357 over a 45?

I heard those Beretta 92fs were fuckin nice. 5 stars for a 9mm. If I was getting another 9, I'd pick that up. I'm tryin to decide what I want to get, I just spent a lot of $$ on extra clips and some customization and shit, so I'm strapped for cash and I have some time to decide.

yah those berettas...fuckin nice, shoots real solid...i would recommmend getting a different trigger then the stock, have it adjusted so that its more sensitive...i shot i customized one and fuckin loved it...every squeeze was fuckin smooth

i have a 45 and love it...takes some practice to get used to the kick and firing style...but im in love with mine..i've shot a .357 and didnt really like it...
to each his own though

The 357s I've shot have better accuracy than the 40 cals and up. It may be because it has less kick. The 357 shell isnt that much smaller than a 40 cal, so if you shoot a human being the damage wont be that big of a difference. Plus, the gun isnt as chunky. It just looks more shiek.

It's all user preference though.

YOU CANT GO WRONG WIT A GLOCK 32 AND/OR A SIG SAUER P239 IN .357 SIG CALIBER... I'VE NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT EITHER PISTOL... THAT CALIBER WILL PRETTY MUCH SHIT ON ANYTHING THATS NOT A .357 MAGNUM OR HIGHER... OH YES, .357 SIG IS A DIFFERENT TYPE OF ROUND THAN THE .357 MAGNUM...
