GTA 2 was Carcer City which they've mentioned in the games before so it could be Carcer City, but we have no idea what city that would be based off of, and if I was to guess I'd guess it'd be a lakefront city like Detroit or Chicago.

And they also used London, so history tells us it'll be Carcer City or London.
carcer city was also in another rockstar game.....which was a damn good one but was kinda under the radar to alot.....manhunt

Euphoria Engine's Possibilities for GTA IV
Posted by DigitalD at 17:37. Category: General

Rockstar and NaturalMotion announced a partnership on February 27, 2007. While the announcement itself was predictably vague, GTA fans immediately caught on, and found several revealing clues. The announcement itself, reads as follows (shortened and emphasized at GTANet's discretion):

"Oxford, UK -- Feb. 27, 2007 -- NaturalMotion, the award-winning developer of 3D animation technology based on Dynamic Motion Synthesis (DMS), today announced a partnership with Rockstar Games, Inc., [...] to integrate NaturalMotion's revolutionary euphoria engine into upcoming next-generation Rockstar Games titles. Rockstar's integration of euphoria is well advanced, with today's announcement following several months of close collaboration between the two companies.

"[...] euphoria uses the processing power of [the PlayStation 3] and [Xbox 360] to simulate the human body and nervous system, thus creating fully interactive game characters that act differently every time. [...] Games move away from canned animation, towards a [...] life-like experience that is unique to the player.

"Further announcements regarding specific titles will follow at a later date."

As the press release makes no mention of Grand Theft Auto IV, and to that matter no mention of Rockstar North (the development studio where Grand Theft Auto IV is being produced), this announcement in itself had no connection to GTA IV. Nevertheless, the story was covered by virtually all of the online GTA community, and several gaming media websites put a GTA twist on the story. Suffice to say, the announcement stirred up a lot of hype.

Over the past week, we have learned that NaturalMotion is not only working in collaboration with Rockstar Games, the publishing label, but more specifically, with Rockstar North, the development studio in charge of making Grand Theft Auto IV. Rockstar has several developers' studios, including London (Manhunt 2), Vancouver (Bully), and San Diego (Midnight Club). Rockstar North, however, has been in charge of developing the last 3 big GTA games (GTA 3, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas), and has been reportedly working on the next-generation GTA since 2005.

In this light, the inclusion of euphoria in GTA seems quite definite, therefore we would like to take the opportunity to clarify what it is that NaturalMotion and its euphoria engine can do, and how its functions can (and will) be used for the next Grand Theft Auto. More information on the euphoria engine and its uses for GTA IV on the GTA IV features page.

i reckon it'll be a direct sequel to GTA3 since it left us with so many mysteries at the end like what happened 2 donald love and asuka. therefore liberty city should be in the game but only be PART of it, let's say a state containing liberty as one of its cities. this state could then also include carcer city n some other ones.

The following paragraphs are expanding on the "Euphoria Engine's Possibilities for GTA IV" news.

To begin, we would like to point out that NaturalMotion's euphoria engine is not a graphics engine. Several sources have claimed euphoria to be a graphics engine, which would power Grand Theft Auto IV. This is an incorrect statement. A graphics engine, commonly known as a game engine, is reponsible for creating real-time graphics for a game. NaturalMotion's euphoria engine is not so much concerned with rendering real-time graphics, as opposed creating interactive animations for the game. The core technology is the Dynamic Motion Synthesis (DMS) system.

Provided enough processing power, such as in a next-generation console (PS3, XBox360), DMS is able to produce dynamic animations for in-game objects. One aspect of this, the DMS behaviors, simulates the responses of a human body to changes in its surroundings. This means that the animations you see taking place have not been pre-scripted or motion captured, as was the case in previous GTA games, but are generated on the fly. So for instance the same interaction with a pedestrian, repeated a dozen times, will produce a different outcome every time. And the shattering of a glass window will result in the glass breaking differently depending on how and where it is broken.

Another feature of the engine is its ability to give NPC characters their own unique artificial intelligence. Characters' behaviour takes place according to their environment and goals. As IGN's preview of Indiana Jones 2007 elaborated, "Every time Indy grabbed someone and tossed him through a window or door, he'd react in another way. And that's because there isn't a single canned animation in the entire game. Behavioral intelligence dictates every gesture, punch, kick and grapple. Say you punch an enemy and he falls. Not only will he fall differently every time, but he'll stand up differently also. Enemies will use tables, cars or anything else available to help them get their bearings." We haven't seen euphoria in action, so we must take their word for it.

Combined, this technology is aimed to provide gamers with "unique game moments". Because animations are created on the fly, one player's experience will differ from another's. This brings Grand Theft Auto's interactive game type into a new world, as no longer are players free to explore the world at their will, they are free to interact with the world just as they please, without being subjected to pre-determined animations.

Rockstar Games' and Natural Motion's partnership was announced at the end of February, 2007. By this point, "several months of close collaboration" had been taking place between the two companies. We can only assume, that this means work on integrating euphoria into Grand Theft Auto IV began sometime at the end of 2006. NaturalMotion's website explains that the integration of the euphoria engine is a result of cooperation between the development team and NaturalMotion, indicating that the opportunities euphoria is creating for GTA IV will be fully utilized:

"NaturalMotion has close co-development relationships with publishers and development teams to integrate euphoria into their next-generation titles. This allows clients to hit the ground running and produce euphoria-enabled games within short time frames."
Source: NaturalMotion euphoria product description

At the time of writing, no games have been released with this technology. It is aimed directly for the next generation consoles; the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The only games to be officially confirmed as using it are Indiana Jones 2007 and Star Wars: Force Unleashed (November, 2007).

Since San Andreas had 3 cities, I think they gonna step it up.... and since the blue ray has a hellavulot more storage capability, I'm hoping that GTA 4 will consist of many cities... hit the airports and head out to diff cities... kinda like olskoo 'Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego' from the 80's....

I think they've said they want one really well done city, and not many cities..

And the game will be coming out on 360, too, which doesn't have blu-ray.

I have a feeling we'll get one city, but a new one that's cool.
